HomeMy Public PortalAbout19700608 - Conservation Commission - Meeting MinutesHOPKINTON CONSERVATION COMMISSION HOPKINTON, MASSACHUSETTS JUNE 8, 1970 The meeting was called to order at 9*00 p.m. by Chairman Nelson Mclntire after the Conservation Commission attended the planning board hearing in regards to a garden apartment complex off of Walcott Street. Those present were Nelson Mclntire, Wayne Morey, Herb McKenney, Andrew Boass, Charles Walsh, and Charles Zettek. Guest present was Gordon Marquis. During the.planning board hearing it was noted that more details on the septic system should be explained, as the present presentation was not adequate. The remarks of the hearing dealt with how the developers wanted to use the area. It was not a complete final presentation, so we did not have to render any opinions at the time. It was noted that the town sanitary fill dump road was very bad. In fact, in places it was almost impassible,. It was noted that Hopkinton probably would be the Number One site for the Airport. It was voted to have Wayne Morey order 114- badges from Dalton Awards for the conservation badge as designed by Judith Amendola. Dalton Awards was the low bidder. It was agreed by the individuals who donated the money to the private conservation fund to use the remaining balance for the partial fee of.the badges. fund balance 3- 2-?0 fl3.ll , deposit and postage for conservation badges 6-^10-70 13.11 balance 7-10-70 $00.00 It was voted to change our meeting to the first Monday of the month and see if we could hold the meeting at the Fire Station. Nelson Mclntire reported that the Key Club had responded to his letter from the Parks Commission for a brush clearing detail and did a good job. Nelson Mclntire reported that he and Wayne Morey and Anthony Petracca met with the Board of Health last Thursday and they agreed that in the future they will ask the Conservation Commission to advj.se on any new septic permits that will be located around the lake front or swamp areas. It was \mted to send a letter to the Board of Health to confirm this. (2) Nelson reported on a report from Allied Biological regarding weeds at North Pond and the reports of the Chemical and Biological Analysis. It was noted that Cambomba and Watermilfbil was noted in several areas and a heavy infestation in the large 20-acre cove. It was noted that the bacteria count was satisfactory while the chloride level taken at the D.P.W. Salt Pile, South Street, was above normal. It was voted to send a letter to Mr. Edward J. King of the Massachusetts Port Authority requesting a current report on the Airport Study. It was voted to have our Massachusetts Junior Camp winner placed on the mailing list for our meetings. It was suggested that a letter be sent to the Holliston Conservation Commission requesting data on their associate group. It was voted to send Arthur Brownell a follow-up letter on the Saddle Hill area by the new Girl Scout Camp and a follow-up letter on the Whitehall dam. -\ - -
