AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF JEFFERSON, MISSOURI, AMENDING CHAPTER 5 OF THE CITY
CODE, SECTION 5.22, PERTAINING TO REIMBURSEMENT FOR SPAYING, NEUTERING,AND
RABIES INOCULATION FOR ADOPTED ANIMALS
BE IT ENACTED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF JEFFERSON, MISSOURI,AS FOLLOWS:
Section 1. The City Code, Chapter 5, Section 5-22, is hereby amended, as
follows:
See.5-22.Redemption and adoption of Impounded animals;disposition of unredeemed auinnals.
A. The owner of any impounded animal,or any other person with the pennission of the owner,may
redeem such animal within a period of seventy-nvo(72)hours alter impoundment by paying to
the city,ten dollars(S 10.00)for each twenty-four(24)hours of impoundment,or fraction thereof,
for the expense of keeping,feeding and sheltering such animal during the tern,of impoundment.
In addition to the ten dollars(S 10.00) for each lwcnty-four(24)hours of impoundment,or fraction
thereof,the owner must pay any and all veterinary expenses incurred for such animal.
B. Any impounded dog or cat which does not bear proof of rabies vaccination shall be released to rile
• owner within twenty-four(24)hours after the payment of the required fee for vaccinating,
ensuring that the animal will be vaccinated for rabies.
C. Any dog,pup,cat or kitten that is impounded and not redeemed within seventy-two(72)hours
shall be placed up for adoption. Adopters shall pay the adoption fee and the execute all adoption
fornn agreeing to take all necessary steps to comply with the provisions or this chapter.The
adoption fcc for animals at the shelter shall be as follows:
Cat or kitten $40.00
Dog or pup $40.00
D. All dogs and cats adopted from the animal shelter must be spayed or neutered.Adopters shall pay

The City Administrator is hereby authorized to execute agreements with veterinarians who wish to
• participate in the program and who are willing to accept the fees RR 9,t OtIt abo t e Promulgated
the nlrec or of Community Development as full compensation for the spaying,neutering and
rabies inoculation.(Ord.No. 12703,§ I, 1-5.98)
E, Any dog,pup,cat or kitten that is impounded and bears proof of rabies vaccination and is not
redeemed or adopted following ten(10)days of impoundment may be cuthanized by the city. In
the event[hat an owner of any dog,pup,cat or kitten picked up at large cannot be determined,
said dog,pup,cal or kitten, following three(3)working days of impoundment shall be placed up
for adoption.
F. Any impounded animal that is not redeemed or adopted following 10(ten)working days of
impoundment may be cuthnnized by the city.
G. Any dog,pup cat or kitten that is impounded and does not bear proof of rabies vaccination nor
identification lags may be placed up for adoption immediately.Any animal that is not redeemed
or adopted following five(5)working days of impoundment may be cuthanized by the city. All
animals which have not been redeemed or adopted within twenty(20)days after impoundment
may be cuthanized by the city.
