HomeMy Public PortalAbout20030530 BB work sessionCOUNCIL WORK SESSION MAY 30, 2003 CALL TO ORDER 1 The Council Work Session of May 30, 2003, was convened at 12:00 P.M. by Mayor John Landwehr. ATTENDANCE The following Council Members were present: Present: Angle, Groner, Klindt, Olsen, Smith, Viessman, and Vogel Absent: Berry, Ferguson and Weber A quorum was present. DISCUSSION OF AGENDA ITEMS A discussion was held about the process of holding public hearings at the same Council Meeting when a related bill is either introduced or scheduled to be voted on. Councilman Cliff Olsen wanted the Council to know what they are supposed to be doing. Mayor John Landwehr stated he would ask the Law Department to let them know what the proper process is. MINUTES AND REPORTS RECEIVED & FILED: Councilman Richard Groner stated he noticed an error on the February 19, 2003 Board of Electrical Examiners and Review minutes about whether an issue is a code issue or not. Mayor John Landwehr stated those minutes would have to be corrected by that Board and resubmitted to the Council in their corrected format at a future date. APPOINTMENTS BY THE MAYOR: Councilman David E. Smith stated he had a question to ask on behalf of Bob Hentges. He stated Mr. Hentges had filled out a form indicating his interest in serving on the Parks and Recreation Commission some time back and wondered why he had not yet been appointed. BIDS OVER $25,000: COUNCIL WORK SESSION MAY 30, 2003 2 Councilman Richard Groner stated he is going to vote against the purchase of the purchase of the two fire tanker trucks because it was not brought to the Council far enough in advance. Mayor John Landwehr asked Fire Chief Robert Rennick to find out how critical it would be if the Council would delay approval of the bid by two weeks, and also encouraged Council Members who had not discussed the issue with Chief Rennick to do so before the Council meeting on Monday night. RESOLUTIONS: RS2003 -12 — Councilman Clyde Angle stated he intends to table this resolution and submit a substitute for the June 16 Council meeting. NEW BUSINESS: Councilman Cliff Olsen stated that the Environmental Services Committee meeting held on May 22 did not have a quorum, so he would like to reschedule a meeting to occur immediately following the June 2 Council meeting. Mayor John Landwehr asked City Clerk Phyllis Powell to arrange for getting an agenda drafted and posted for that meeting. Councilman Clyde Angle discussed a subcommittee of the Finance Committee to discuss health care benefits. He asked if staff would let him know if they would have enough time to get information together if they have a meeting on June 9. No official actions were taken since this was a work session only. The meeting adjourned at 1:00 p.m.
