HomeMy Public PortalAbout20030703 BB work sessionCOUNCIL WORK SESSION JULY 3, 2003 CALL TO ORDER 1 The Council Work Session of July 3, 2003, was convened at 12:00 P.M. by Mayor John Landwehr. ATTENDANCE The following Council Members were present: Present: Ferguson, Groner, Klindt, Olsen, Viessman, and Vogel Absent: Angle, Berry, and Weber A quorum was present. DISCUSSION OF AGENDA ITEMS APPOINTMENTS Staff was asked to check requirements in the Code for appointing persons to city boards and commissions fora third term. There is one such appointment on the agenda, and it may need to be considered separately to comply with Code requirements. ELECTION OF NEW WARD TWO COUNCIL MEMBER: Mayor John Landwehr stated this is the first time Council has gone through this process since the new election ordinances went into effect in 2002, and asked the Council's pleasure on how to proceed. Councilman Cliff Olsen stated he believes there should be at least two rounds of voting and then the Council could decide what to do from there. BILLS INTRODUCED: 2003 -47: Councilman Richard Groner stated he had problems with this bill, and will want to talk about it at the meeting. 2003 -52 through 2003 -58: Questions were asked about ISO ratings, inspectors, etc., in connection with these ordinances. Mayor Landwehr stated unless Council objects, he would like to have all 7 bills read, then have all summarized by Mr. Sullivan at the same time. NEW BUSINESS: COUNCIL WORK SESSION JULY 3, 2003 2 Sidewalks in new subdivision: Mayor John Landwehr stated that he had requested this discussion item and explained the reason it needs to be discussed by Council, and possibly make some changes to some of the sidewalk regulations. Compliance with ordinance for new subdivisions: Councilman Groner asked the Law Department to draft an ordinance to clarify the issue of voluntary annexation for subdivisions hooking onto city sewer lines. Cracks in downtown sidewalks: Assistant to the City Administrator Melva Fast was asked to be prepared to address the issue at Monday night's meeting. Councilman Cliff Olsen made comments regarding the levee project and wanted to know if the city has talked to Callaway County about the issue. City Administrator Rich Mays stated that the city has talked to them. No official actions were taken since this was a work session only. The meeting adjourned at 12:40 p.m.
