Ms. Conforti has been practicing law for approximately 15 years with almost 9 years as an assistant city attorney for the City of West Palm Beach. Ms. Alterman has been an attorney for 25 years and most recently served as the Palm Beach County Director of Planning, Zoning and Building for 12 years. Successfully represented municipal (Riviera Beach) police officers at state court trial alleging excessive use of force. Recovered over $400,000.00 for the Palm Beach County Health Care District from third -parties. 1993 Drafted and had leading role in enactment of legislation permitting the Palm Beach County Health Care District to impose liens. Won summary judgment dismissing a complaint alleging due process violations against a local city (Delray Beach) in federal court. Prevailed at Special Master Hearing relative to Village -Union impasse (North Palm Beach). Served on Selection Panel for West Palm Beach City Attorney. 1994 Successfully defended municipality (Riviera Beach) in state court litigation alleging false arrest/false imprisonment. Member of the Conference Panel presenting the topic "How Far is Too Far/Alternative Non -Traditional Funding" for the Florida Government Communicator's Association. Successfully defended state court lawsuit seeking to overturn municipality's (Riviera Beach) decision to privatize sanitation services. 1995 Won federal court litigation claiming that an act of the Legislature, exempting a special district (Health Care District) from certain payments, impaired over ten million dollars in bonds. Successfully defended School District, and individually -named school administrators, in federal court action alleging violation of due process. Speaker on the A.D.A. at the Florida Institute of Government Symposium for Excellence in Government. Prevailed in an action to set aside the transfer of a public hospital (Everglades Memorial Hospital) to a private corporation and providing for the return of the hospital to the control of a public board (Health Care District). 1996 Successfully obtained an injunction closing an adult entertainment establishment which was operating in violation of municipal (Riviera Beach) ordinance. Won a jury trial in federal court on behalf of a national charity (Salvation Arany) and a supervisory employee accused of sexual harassment by a female employee. Successfully negotiated resolution of dispute between a private hospital (Bethesda) and public agency (Health Care District) which resulted in twenty-five payments of one million dollars each by the hospital. State appellate court upheld the dismissal of an action alleging a violation of the sunshine law in the selection of the Riviera Beach City Manager. Obtained summary judgment in federal court for a municipality (Lake Worth) in an action alleging gender discrimination in employment. 1997 Obtained summary judgment in federal court for School Board in an action alleging violations of the First Amendment and Due Process relating to the suspension of a student from a middle school. Won federal court jury trial brought by two former teachers alleging that their employment was terminated because of age discrimination. Won federal courtjury trial broughtby maintenance employee claiming he was discriminated against by the School District in violation of the Americans With Disabilities Act. 1998 Successfully defended Broward Community College against a federal court claim of race discrimination brought by former employee. Prevailed in jury trial by former employee of the maintenance department of the Palm Beach County School District who alleged race and age discrimination. Received an awarded attorney's fees for the School District Summary judgment entered for St. Lucie County Fire District on claim brought by employees claiming violation of their due process rights in failing to be promoted. Fourth District Court of Appeal upheld the dismissal of Riviera Beach police officers from an action alleging a due process violation by an individual who was severely injured after being released from custody. Fourth District Court of Appeals upheld denial of mandamus as to a substitute teacher seeking a professional services contract (tenure). 1999 Prevailed in Federal Court jury trial brought by applicant for employment with the Palm Beach County Tax Collector, born without fingers on one hand, alleging a violation of the Americans with Disabilities Act. Successful in having municipality (Riviera Beach) dismissed from a gender discrimination lawsuit based on a landmark ruling redefining the joint employer test under Title VII. Eleventh Circuit Court of Appeal upheld summary judgment entered for Broward Community College in an employment discrimination action.
