Whereas, thousands oP �en are nov� out bi employment and.
present conditions indicate that thousands more must soon join the
list o� the unemployed in Californ:ia due to conditions existir� in
the oil industry: and
V,�hereas, the enforced withdrarval of the petroleum industry
from the purchasing of material and equiptment vrill seriously affect
transportation, ihe steel industry, and many ma�uiacturing, machinery,
and oil tool industries throvghout the entire United States; and
. t�hereas, existing conditions �vill force the abandonr,ient of
many wells, especially small producing v�ells, thus removin; for a11
time the conservation o� this oil �or the Yuture, anfl will seriously
injure if not destroy California largest industry and force a large
,
number oY petroleum producers into bankruptcy; and
�idhereas, national le�islation 2�d an immediate embargo or
tari3Y against foreign shipments of oil an d petroleum products are

necessary to save the American oil industry in the present crisis;
Therefore, Be it Resolved that The City Council of the ,
City of Lynwood petition President Hoover to call an extra session
of Congress to enact national legislation to meet the critical
situation in the oil industry-and to save America from serious
irreparable economic loss.
Resolved that copies of this:resolution be forwarded
to the President and to California's Senators and Representatives.
