'� � I . �� � I City of Lynwood Veterans Affairs Council Meeting Minutes March 28, 2011 I. Call to Order — The Veterans Affairs Council Meeting for March 28, 2011 was called to order at 5 p.m. by Chairperson Charles Wood. II. Invocation — The Invocation was led by Chairperson Wood. III. Pledge of Allegiance — The Pledge of Allegiance was led by Board Member Julio Mendoza. IV. Roll Call — Present Absent Charles Wood, Chairperson Louis Ford, Board Member Julio Mendoza, Board Member � V. Agenda Posting — The Agenda was duly posted by the City Clerk for the March 2011 meeting. VI. Approval of Minutes — Chairperson Wood called for a motion to approve the February 2011 minutes. Board Member Mendoza motioned to approve the minutes. Chairperson Wood seconded the motion and the motion was passed. VII. Scheduled Matters — Plans for the annual Veterans Day Program were ' discussed. Ms. Rozie Carrillo, Recreation Superintendent stated that the Veterans need to brainstorm ideas for this year's program. The Board Members wanted to know how they can plan for an event when � Council is going to disband the Veterans Affairs Council. Ms. Carrillo stated that nothing has been finalized yet and we should continue to meet as usual. Chairperson Wood stated that they had been doing fine until the City Council started appointing people. Ms. Carrillo stated that another press release will be going out to advertise for membership for the Veterans Affairs Council. Chairperson Wood suggested meeting later in the evening or on Saturday if ineeting quarterly. Possibly changing the meeting time will bring more interest. Ms. Carrillo stated that she may have a person interested in the � Veterans Affairs Council. Chairperson Wood stated that the only qualification to belong to the Veterans Affairs Council is being a Veteran of the military; however interested parties now need to take I Scheduled Matters — Continued the time to go to the City Clerk's office to fill out an application and wait to hear if iYll be approved. Ms. Carrillo stated that she knows the Veterans Affairs Council won't be dissolved. They do need to decide when and where they'll meet. There won't be a Minutes Clerk to take minutes. Chairperson Wood stated that the people in the organization should have the right to say who can and can't belong. Ms. Carrillo stated that everything should be fine once we get some clarity from the City Council. There should definitely be a Veterans group in existence. Ms. Carrillo stated that most items are donated for the annual Veterans Day Program. Sometimes there is a small food cost. Ms. Carrillo stated. that the City Council is invited to this annual pre-approved I program. VIII. Public Orals - None IX. Board Member Orals — • Wood — Suggested that the Veterans continue to meet on a � quarterly basis. Ms. Carriilo stated this is possible and they can meet more often nearer to the program date. � . Ford — Absent � . Mendoza — Asked if the group will be disbanded by November. Ms. Carrillo stated that we should know more by April. X. Adjournment — The Veterans Affairs Council will adjourn until the next regularly scheduled meeting to be held at 5 p.m. on Monday, April 25, 2011. � i i � I
