New Business: COUNCIL WORK SESSION OCTOBER 29, 2004 2 The issue of voting power of the President Pro Tempore was held, and Mayor John Landwehr asked Councilman Brian Crane to place this issue on an agenda of the Council Rules Committee for its next meeting. Councilman Kevin Brown stated he would like the Council to consider waiting until after the city election filing period ends on November 23 before filling the Council seat recently vacated by Councilman Bob Weber. He believes that someone is interested in filling that vacancy with the intention of running for the office as well should come in and file for office to indicate their interest in serving. If there are those who would be willing to serve in the interim, but do not intend to run a full term to the office, the Council could consider filling the vacancy from that roster. But if no one is willing to fill the vacancy for just the interim vacancy, then the Council would have a list of interested candidates from which to fill the vacancy after the filing period closes. He indicated that he is simply making that suggestion and in no way feels the Council has to do it that way, but he did believe that might be the most appropriate method to use this close to the actual filing period. Councilman Brian Crane asked for information about how many people have shown interest in the neighborhood reinvestment program recently approved by the Council. Mayor John Landwehr asked Assistant to the City Administrator Melva Fast or City Counselor Nathan Nickolaus to give an update at the meeting Monday night. No official actions were taken since this was a work session only. The meeting adjourned at 12:40 P.M.
