HomeMy Public PortalAbout20050204 BB work sessionCOUNCIL WORK SESSION FEBRUARY 4, 2005 CALL TO ORDER The Council "Brown Bag" Work Session of February 4, 2005, was convened at 12:00 P.M. by Mayor John Landwehr. ATTENDANCE The following Council Members were present when the meeting convened: Present: Berry, Brown, Crane, Ferguson, Layton, Harvey, Schnitzler, Viessman, and Vogel Absent: Martin DISCUSSION OF AGENDA ITEMS Items were not necessarily discussed in order that they appeared on the agenda. Mayor John Landwehr asked staff to consider accelerating non - controversial development projects by letting the Council know which pertinent ordinances could have the rules suspended. He indicated that by doing that, it would reduce the development projects by two weeks. He asked the Council to think about the idea and let him and staff know what they think about that. Bill 2004 -116: Councilman Kenneth Ferguson stated this will be removed from the Informal Calendar and, at the request of the Human Relations Commission, will be withdrawn at the meeting on Monday night. Bill 2004 -123: City Counselor Nathan Nickolaus distributed copies of a substitute bill and explained the changes in this version. RS2004 -15: City Counselor Nathan Nickolaus distributed a substitute to this resolution. Mayor John Landwehr asked if anyone would be interested in serving on the committee that would be COUNCIL WORK SESSION FEBRUARY 4, 2005 appointed as a result of adopting this resolution. He stated he would like to have at least a couple of City Council members on it. New Business: Mayor John Landwehr announced he would like staff to look at various applications and procedures involved in the development process to see if there is any way to shorten the time frame for development projects. Unfinished Business: Mayor John Landwehr stated he has received a lot of feedback from people about the issue of cable access stemming from the report recently made by Councilman Brian Crane on it. He asked the three Council Members who served on the Ad Hoc JCTV Committee if they would be willing to continue to serve on that committee to begin working on the recommendations made in that report. Those Council Members would be Councilmen Crane, Harvey, and Brown. They indicated they would be willing to serve. Mayor Landwehr stated he would leave it up to them whether to they would rather have some people from the community to either serve on the committee, or prefer to get citizen input in the issue through a public comments forum at their meetings. Closed Session: City Counselor Nathan Nickolaus stated that there will also be personnel issues to be discussed at the closed session Monday night. City Clerk Phyllis Powell was asked to add that category to the Closed Session category on the agenda. There being no other business brought forward, the Mayor declared the meeting adjourned at 12:20 P.M.
