SUBJECT: DISCUSSION REGARDING APPOINTMENT TO FILL A VACANCY ON
THE PARKS AND RECREATION COMMISSION
RECOMMENDATION:
The C ity Council is requested to provide direction on the following options :
1. Open recruitment for the Parks and Recreation Commission vacancy and re -
establish the City Commissioner Recruitment Ad Hoc Committee ; or
2. Interview or appoint Parks and Recreation Commission applicants from the previous
City Commissioner recruitment; or
3. Provide staff with further direction as Council deems appropriate .
BACKGROUND:
1. By April 30 , 2018 , City Commissioners recruitment deadline , City received 6
applications for the Parks and Recreation Commission (Attachment "A"), 5
applications for the Planning Commission , and 7 applications for the Transportation
and Public Safety Commission .
2. On May 1, 2018 , City Council established the City Commissioner Recruitment Ad
Hoc Committee (Ad Hoc Committee) and appointed Councilmember Chavez and
Councilmember Yu to the Ad Hoc Committee.
3. On July 3 , 2018 , City Council adopted resolutions confirming appointments to the
city commiss ions (i.e., Parks and Recreation -Donna Georgina with term ending
June 30, 2020).
4. On November 6, 2018 , Parks and Recreation Commissioner Donna Georgina was
elected to the Temple City Unified School District Board of Education . Her term will

begin on Friday, December 7, 2018.
5. On November 13, 2018, Parks and Recreation Commissioner Donna Georgina
submitted her resignation letter.
ANALYSIS:
In light of Parks and Recreation Commissioner Georgina's resignation, City Council is
requested to give staff direction on filling the vacant seat. City Council is requested to
consider opening recruitment for the vacancy and re-establish the City Commissioner
Recruitment Ad Hoc Committee, or interview or appoint Parks and Recreation
Commission applicant(s) from the previous City Commissioner recruitment (i.e., Carole
Rodenbucher, Manish Chokshi, Nancy Kong, and Zhi Zeng MD), or provide staff with
further direction as Council deems appropriate. The appointee to the Parks and
Recreation Commission will fill an unexpired term of office ending June 30, 2020.
CITY STRATEGIC GOALS:
City Council's direction on filling the Parks and Recreation Commissioner vacancy
promotes the City Strategic Goal of Good Governance.
FISCAL IMPACT
This item does not have an impact on the Fiscal Year (FY) 2018-19 City Budget.
