ADMINISTRATIVE SERVICES DEPARTMENT MEMORANDUM DATE: December 18, 2018 TO: The Honorable City Council FROM: Bryan Cook, City Manager By : Susan Paragas, Administrative Services Director SUBJECT: ADOPTION OF RESOLUTION NO. 18-5377 ADOPTING REVISED SALARY RANGES FOR UNREPRESENTED PART-TIME CLASSIFICATIONS IMPLEMENTING MINIMUM WAGE EFFECTIVE ON JANUARY 1, 2019 RECOMMENDATION: The City Council is requested to : 1. Adopt Resolution No. 18-5377 (Attachment "A"), adopting salary ranges for unrepresented part-time classifications implementing the minimum wage effective on January 1, 2019. 2. Approve a FY 2018 -2019 budget amendment of $10,230 for the additional fiscal impact in the General Fund Parks and Recreation Department, #01-940. BACKGROUND: The State of California's minimum wage law is increasing on January 1, 2019 from $11 .00 per hour to $12.00 per hour. ANALYSIS: In order to ensure compliance with the State of California's minimum wage law , it is necessary to adjust the salary rates of certain part-time classifications . Three (3) classifications contain hourly rates below the new minimum wage , so it is recommended that the following classifications' hourly rates be adjusted to comply: Recreation Aide Recreation Leade r I Recreation Leader II City Council December 18, 2018 Page 2 of 2 Only the employees that are affected by the minimum wage increase will have their salaries adjusted accordingly. However, during the next budget process, the part-time hourly rates for these classifications, in addition to the Senior Recreation Leader, will be analyzed comprehensively to alleviate any salary compactions. The estimated additional cost for the remainder of FY 2018-2019 is approximately $10,230. CITY STRATEGIC GOALS: Adoption of Resolution No. 18-5377 will promote or further the City's Strategic Goal of Good Governance. FISCAL IMPACT: There is an additional fiscal impact of approximately $10,230 for FY 2018-2019. A budget amendment is requested in the Parks and Recreation Department, #01-940. ATTACHMENT: A. Resolution No. 18-5377 ATTACHMENT A RESOLUTION NO. 18-5377 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF TEMPLE CITY, CALIFORNIA APPROVING THE ADJUSTED SALARY SCHEDULE FOR UNREPRESENTED PART-TIME CLASSIFICATIONS WHEREAS, on January 1, 2019, the State of California's minimum wage law is increasing from $11.00 per hour to $12.00 per hour. NOW THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF TEMPLE CITY DOES HEREBY RESOLVE, DETERMINE AND ORDER AS FOLLOWS: Section 1. The City Council hereby approves the salary ranges for unrepresented part-time classifications (Exhibit "1 ") and implementing salary adjustments effective on January 1, 2019; and Section 2. The City Clerk shall certify to the adoption of this Resolution. PASSED, APPROVED AND ADOPTED on this 18th day of December, 2018.
