HomeMy Public PortalAbout20050513 BB work sessionCOUNCIL WORK SESSION MAY 13, 2005 CALL TO ORDER The May 13, 2005, "Brown Bag" Work Session was convened at 12:00 PM by Mayor John Landwehr. ATTENDANCE The following Council Members were present when the meeting convened: Present: Brown, Crane, Ferguson, Harvey, Layton, Schnitzler, and Vogel Absent: Berry, Martin, and Pope A quorum was present. DISCUSSION OF AGENDA ITEMS Items were not necessarily discussed in order that they appeared on the agenda. Presentations from Invited Guests: Councilman Brian Crane requested that Carla Steck be added to the agenda to make a presentation on "Cultural Tourism" related to the Arts in Parks project. Bills Introduced: 2005 -13: City Planner Janice McMillan stated that the correct name of the contractor should be listed as "Ned" Hug instead of "Ted" Hug. A lengthy discussion was held regarding terms of the contract. 2005 -14: Mayor John Landwehr and several City Council members expressed concern that the contract appeared to be "open- ended" and asked City Counselor Nathan Nickolaus to let the Council know the specific details of this case before this bill is voted on. Bills Pending: 2005 -11: Mayor John Landwehr turned the chair over to President Pro Tempore Edith Vogel since he has a conflict of interest in the issue. A discussion was held regarding terms of the ordinance. City Counselor Nathan Nickolaus stated that a substitute to this bill will be distributed Monday. COUNCIL WORK SESSION MAY 13, 2005 *Councilman Michael Berry left the meeting at this point (12:25 P.M.) Reports: Councilman Mike Harvey asked that the report from the Ad Hoc Animal Control be postponed until the June 6 meeting. New Business: Options were discussed for scheduling a combination public forum / Council work session for the Hwy. 179 corridor annexation issue. The Council thought it would be a good idea to do that if it is feasible. City Administrator Rich Mays announced that Senator Christopher Bond will be at the Jefferson City Memorial Airport to hold a press conference regarding recent Missouri military base closings made by the Federal Government in case any city staff might be interested in attending. Adjournment: There being no other business brought forward, the meeting adjourned at 12:30 P.M.
