SUBJECT: SECOND READING AND ADOPTION OF ORDINANCE NO. 19-1033
AMENDING CHAPTER 1, SECTION 2-1-0 OF THE TEMPLE CITY
MUNICIPAL CODE REGARDING REGULAR CITY COUNCIL MEETINGS
THAT FALL ON AN ELECTION DAY
RECOMMENDATION:
City Council is requested to adopt Ordinance No. 19-1033 amending Chapter 1, Section
2-1-0 of the Temple City Municipal Code , moving regular City Council meetings that
coincides with City Special Municipal Election and Statewide Election day to the next
business day that is not a holiday .
BACKGROUND:
1. On April 12 , 1965, the City Council adopted Ordinance No . 65 -150 (Attachment "B")
amending Section 2703 of the Temple City Municipal Code declaring the regular
meetings of the City Co uncil to be held on the first and third Tuesday of each month
at the hour of 7:30p.m., or the next succeeding day which is not a holiday. Section
2703 has been renumbered and is now Section 2-1-0 .
2 . In October, 2018, Coundlmember Yu requested that the City Council consider
moving the Regular City Council meetings on an election day to the next subsequent
business day that is not a holiday for Council's consideration.
3. On January 3 , 2019 , the requ ired public noticing for City Council to consider an
ordinance amendment to the regular City Council meetings day on City's Special
Municipal Election and Statewide Election Day was published in the legal notice
section of the Temple City Tribune .
4. On January 19, 2019 , City Council introduced Ordinance No. 19-1033 for first
reading , by title only, amending Chapter 1, Section 2-1-0 of the Temple City
Municipal Code.

ANALYSIS:
On January 15, 2019, City Council introduced Ordinance No. 19-1033 for first reading, by
title only, and scheduled the second reading and adoption of the ordinance for February 5,
2019. Adoption of Ordinance No. 19-1033 will amend Chapter 1, Section 2-1-0, of the
Temple City Municipal Code moving the Regular City Council meetings on an election day
to the next subsequent business day that is not a holiday.
CITY STRATEGIC GOALS:
Adoption of Ordinance No. 19-1 033 promotes the strategic goal of Citizen Education and
Communication.
FISCAL IMPACT:
This item will not have an impact on the Fiscal Year (FY) 2018-19 City Budget.

ORDINANCE NO. 19-1033
AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF TEMPLE
CITY, AMENDING CHAPTER 1, SECTION 2100 OF THE CITY OF
TEMPLE CITY MUNICIPAL CODE RELATING TO COUNCIL
MEETINGS ON ELECTION DAY
THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF TEMPLE CITY DOES ORDAIN:
SECTION 1. Chapter 1, Section 2-1-0 of the Temple City Municipal Code is hereby amended to
read as follows:
2-1-0. Council Meetings. Regular meetings of the City Council shall be held in the Council Chamber
at the City Hall, at 5938 North Kauffman Avenue, Temple City, California at seven thirty (7:30) P.M.
on the first and third Tuesday of each month of the year, unless the City Council meeting falls on a
national holiday or an election day. Council meetings that fall on a national holiday or an election day
will be moved to the next subsequent business day that is not a holiday.
SECTION 2. This Ordinance shall take effect on March 7, 2019, thirty (30) days after its
adoption. The City Clerk, or her duly appointed deputy, shall attest to the adoption of this
Ordinance and shall cause this Ordinance to be published once in a newspaper circulated in the
City of Temple City.
