A 4 J t J, I/
5 :00 pm Brewster Town Hall
BRaEVISTER
Attendees : Hal Minis, Rick Scanevin, Greg Wright, Joe Sullivan , Susan Riseman
1 . Joe provided an update on the Regional subcommittee meeting pertaining to gathering biking E
demographic information on the bike paths in Brewster. This is a project that was initiated by
the Regional 4 Elbow Towns Bike Committee Chairs to move forward with representatives of
each town . Joe said that the subcommittee was chaired by John O'Toole the Chatham Bikeways
Chair and their first order of business was to create a mission statement of the purpose of the
committee' s focus . It will be called the " Path Usage Working Group" . They will collect data ,
with a look forward to analyze usage to improve biking in the 4 towns . They are looking at the
best ways to collect the data and determine next steps on utilization of data . The collective
thoughts of the 4 towns is that such data could be beneficial to obtain funding from the state or
other municipal funding sources to improve cycling conditions, and if all four towns are involved
it we would have more strength in numbers to push certain strategic efforts that we all share .
The subcommittee is looking at what other groups have data and what do they do with it ( ie .,
DCR, DOT, friends of the railtrail ) , however, Joe added that it will be important going forward to
manage the data effectively. It was noted that John O'Toole sent minutes to the 4 towns of
their first meeting of this group .
2 . We also talked about the regional meeting of the 4 towns and felt that it was not necessary for
everyone to attend but rather have at least one representative from Brewster try to attend .
A motion was made to request that DPW use the CPC money (that was left over from the warning
lights purchase ) to now purchase "counters" and a live "cam" for at least one or perhaps 2 major
locations — Millstone Road and Underpass Road near Ferretti' s at Route 137 . The vote was seconded
and it was approved unanimously.
3 . Greg provided an update from his first meeting on Mapping to areas in Orleans and Brewster.
The group wants to provide alternate safe routes around these towns to access the rail trail,
beaches and other popular destinations in each town .
4. Bikeways Committee has an opening for another full time committee member.
The group discussed what we felt was important in seeking another member to apply .
Generally, it was mentioned that the group would like someone familiar with town, the culture,
experience with youth cycling programs and schools, and perhaps someone who has extensive
cycling experience working with other cycling groups . Greg identified a person who lives in
Brewster who he feels would be a great fit for the committee and indicated that he would like to
approach him to see if he has interest in applying .
A motion was made to have Greg ask Shamus Woods if he would be interested in applying. Motion
was seconded, and unanimously approved .
5 . Hal informed the group that Staples had made an error in producing the new Flyer so he now
has another 1,000 for handouts .
We will use these for bikeshops and various opportunities for distribution throughout the
G
coming year.
It was mentioned that we need to engage the police department in some of our activities and
perhaps ask them if we can join in some of their efforts . We will ask Chief Eldredge to join an
upcoming meeting and will prepare some ideas for collaboration at that time .
Meeting was adjourned at 5 : 58PM .
Minutes taken by Susan Riseman , Chair
Subject to Committee review and approval vote at next meeting .
