At 5 : 04 PM , Abigail Franklin called the meeting to order for the Coastal Committee and Susan Riseman called the Bikeways Committee meeting to order. The first item on the agenda was a discussion of promoting bike access to Town landings . Hal Minis stated that Patrick Ellis, DPW director, felt that, given the narrow width of road travel surfaces and rights-of-way on landing roads, maintaining a sound surface was the best way to make the roads safe for bikers and pedestrians . Mary O' Neill indicated that on Crosby and Linnell Lanes, she had seen many bikers, walkers and cars at the same time and they seem to work out safe travel . Rachel Hutchinson noted that signage on roads often helps, for example in Dennis there are "Walk left, Bike right" signs . Chris Miller commented that road surfaces also affect safety and travel speeds : some rougher surfaces are fine for pedestrians and bikers and cause car drivers to slow down . Mary O' Neill suggested that there was a bigger picture to consider in promoting access to beaches, such as considering safe crossings on Rt 6A. The committees agreed that it would be useful to have representatives from each committee meet with Patrick Ellis to discuss ideas in more detail, preferably before the August 16 Coastal workshop . Hal Minis and Pat Hughes agree to contact Mr. Ellis . The Committees then reviewed the draft letter to the Select Board regarding the CCRT extension across Rt . 6A to Linnell landing and the area between Linnell and Crosby landings . The members felt that the letter reflected the discussion from the previous meeting, but that it could be stronger if the first paragraph clearly stated the intent of the letter. It was recommended to move the last paragraph to become the first paragraph . Hal Minis moved to approve the letter as amended and the motion was seconded . The Bikeways Committee voted 5 -0 to approve the letter as amended and the Coastal Committee voted 4-0 to approve the letter. The members next discussed the August 16 Coastal Committee workshop on beach access . Abigail Franklin stated that the purpose was to provide some background on access issues and present ideas to promote access currently under discussion . The Coastal Committee asked that Bikeways members share data that had been informally gathered at Brewster Conservation Day on ways to promote biking and review questions that might be asked of visitors to the Bikeways exhibit . The minutes of the previous meeting were reviewed and approved unanimously by both committees . The joint meeting was adjourned at 5 : 50 pm . I BREWiS T ER TOWN CIERK - 1 01,1 a.
