Guiding Principles for Coastal Planning Adaptive: Recognize that the changing nature of coastal resources requires flexibility and adaptive planning and monitoring Consensus-based: Provide for public input and build community consensus through all phases of the planning and implementation of the Coastal Adaptation Strategy. Holistic: Protect the whole coastal system and seek actions appropriate to coastal projections and community needs that build on and enhance the coast as well as the ecosystem as a whole. Natural Beauty: Protect and maintain the natural beauty, non- commercial, peaceful, quiet, spacious, and “small feel” of Brewster’s coast, beaches, and coastal neighborhoods. Science-based, innovative, and realistic: Seek long-term solutions based on the best available science that are innovative, realistic, and achievable; that work with nature, build climate resiliency and that are both environmentally and fiscally sustainable. Brewster Vision Plan-Coastal Management Goal: In the context of coastal change, preserve and protect Brewster‘s coastal resources and expand public access Purpose 1: Protect Coastal resources in ways that preserve coastal ecosystems and habitats and the character of the town and coastal neighborhoods Purpose 2: Maintain and expand public access for all through public consensus and explore alternate modes of transport and access points Purpose 3: Adapt to climate change projections and advance adaptation and resiliency techniques that are financially and environmentally sustainable
