A landing has existed there for a long time. It was working waterfront. Breakwater: This was the only public beach in Brewster for a time and was called “Town Beach”. Beach shacks used to provide a place for people to change into swimwear. These were removed in 1939. In 1955 Dorothea Cist donated to the Town adjoining land that included 200ft of beach frontage. Paine’s Creek: A landing has existed there for a long time and it was working waterfront. In 1939 the Town accepted a donation of land near the Landing. In 1949 land was purchased by the Town from Edna Young (Fred Young’s widow) for, “bathing beach purposes” for the sum of $2,000. Land is referred to being at ‘the land at the foot of Paine’s Creek”. Point of Rocks: 1915 the Town ‘awarded’ landowner Grace Crosby Wendell $25 to lay out a Common Town Landing Place at the Shore end of Bradley Rd. Crosby Landing 1915 the Town ‘awarded’ landowner Geo. S. Hopkins $25 to lay out a “Common Town Landing Place at the shore end of Crosby Rd. 1956 or 1957 land purchases around it were made. The 1956 Report of the Board of Selectmen states, “The Town Landing and Public Beach problem in the east part of town has been materially aided by the acquisition of the Horgan property as called for in Articles 31 and it is hoped that the Hopkins property, Article 32 can be obtained.” Horgan property of 7/10 of an acre was purchased for $650. A parcel owned by Hopkins of 6/10 acre was purchased for $400. Both purchases were made for ‘town landing & bathing beach purposes’. Linnell Landing: 1915 the Town ‘awarded’ landowner Geo. S. Rice $25 to lay out a “Common Town Landing Place” on the shore end of Linnell Rd.Additional land was purchased in 1926? Ellis Landing: 1915 the Town ‘awarded’ $25 for a Common Town Landing Place “…at the shore end of Mill Rd on land of Gilbert Ellis, land for same was given by said Ellis with the understanding that said land should be called the Ellis common landing place.” Two additional donation in 1926 and 1928? Robbins Hill Landing: 1949 purchase, 1952 purchase Saints Landing: A 1959 map lists the parcel as pending. A 1984 map listed the parcel as town land. Wing Island: Town purchased the land in 1961 “for the purpose of a bathing beach & recreational area” 1970 added some more land Spruce Hill: When it was purchased by the town in 1986 it was referred to as the, “Castiglioni property” 25 acres. State grant funding helped the Town to purchase the land.
