Bill,
In general, a very good job. The best website of the coastal towns. There are numerous tiny spelling errors
(i.e. "emergencey") , redundancies, myths (no one ever saw the German spy), inaccuracies (number of
households and presence of a commercial business was pre -Annexation) that can be very easily edited. Do
you want me to contact the writer?
There should be another. sentence or two on the Civic Assoc, eventually including a link to their site.
There is a tone of wealth and exclusivity that could be tempered with a few choice words. We should also
explain the purpose of the design manual.

I neglected to mention that I had discussed the issue of the party wall gateldoor with Dr. SilvermaWs contractor,
and he seemed to think that a real door with latches could be constructed that would replicate the door that was
removed. I indicated that the door could be locked or bolted from the 1465 side if the Silvenaan`s were
concerned about safety. That way, if there were a desire to provide access from either direction, it would be up
to the owner of 1465 to determine. This solution is in keeping with the plans that called for such common
features to remain as is, or to be restored to original condition,.

variations from the original (amended) landscape plan, except for what was requested by us—namely to shelter
the 4' "working" Juliette balcony that was originally meant to be a 3' design feature. A palm was first installed,
then replaced by a mature sea grape at the south end of the balcony when it was observed that a skinny palm
trunk would hardly provide the intended privacy.
As you may recall, a new landscaping firm took over the project after the plans had been approved by the
Commission. They made substantial changes to the deck design, as far as I know. However, I don't believe tha
anything was done without our knowledge.
I agree with you that the quality of design and workmanship is most impressive. However, we cannot wait for
the job to be finished!

Bill,
Checked and counter checked Marty failed to change the credit attribution on the photo of the polo fields. It
is "The Historical Society of Palm Beach County". Also in the subhead, the word "credits" was bookmarked
and is not necessary. The last sentence in the history section includes a "hanger"that can be eliminated by
changing the end of the last sentence to ..."continues unabated".
I changed the copy on the Civic Association that appeared on a tab. It was inserted, but the same words should
be used where the Civic Assoc is referred to at another place in the website. Marty was going to get a contact
number or email address for the Civic Assoc, but he was apparently unsuccessful. The email address of
oscal956(1a 956@pxnail.com is still live, but I don't know if anyone reads it.
In all, this is the best website among the small barrier island towns.

additional work would need to be done between the meter and the 3 -Phase service boxes, and if so, when and
- how would the work be done. At the very least someone would have to open the garage doors to provide
access. While the senior technician seemed to think that "indoor" work would almost certainly need to be done,
he commented that "we won't know anything until we make the connections."
I was surprised at how little the gentlemen seemed to know about the project , and further, why the visit was
necessary. FPL has inspected the meter on several prior occasions. They have commented that my meter
should be in a museum—it's that old.
We have been telling people in Gulf Stream that FPL has completed their pre -work, such that we are about to
hit the street with RFPs for the construction phase. Maybe I am too close to the forest, but what do we say to
our residents when they see FPL people on their property after the plans have been finalized?

If you get the Delray Commission agenda, click on Item l0E for the background memos supporting the Coastal
Planning & Engineering recommendation. We are asking that funds be set aside for replanting sea oats in the
effected dunes, even if theCity decides to forgo application of upland sand. If the City gets approval to use more
sand from the ocean under the existing contract, I am sure they will also patch the northern dunes. The cost is

Guys,
The modest CPE proposal is consistent with the direction given by the Commission for dune restoration, but it
leaves out two important factors:
(1) how do private property owners gain access to sand for their own purposes under the requested permits, and
most important (2) where is the sand coming from (before turtle season).
They are proposing 1500 CY of sand spread along 600 feet of dunes, or roughly 2.5 C/Y per linear foot. I am
unable to visualize how this translates to a maximum 1:5 slope, versus the 3:1 slope advocated by
DEP. Andy: with your scientific mind, could you diagram the two slope options, assuming a start point of a 4'
escarpment? I assume in both cases, the end point must be 10 feet from the existing mean high water line.
Before I conclude that there is no way that Gulf Stream private property owners, homes and clubs, could benefit
from the Delray Emergency Permit even if they wanted to, I would love to ask the "what if' question. What if
Rick got a bunch of Delray homeowners to chip in the amount of money required to procure and truck sand for
theiCproperties, and contiguous Gulf Stream properties were allowed to do the same up to another 1500 C/Y, or
some reasonably calculated amount. The average escarpment north of Rick's house and 200' north of mine, is
about 4'.
The logistics of this effort might be monumental, but Eastman Aggregates told me they routinely truck sand
dumped on the beach up to one mile from the dump source. If the "sand pile" were at the north entrance of the
public beach, carrying it another several hundred feet might be doable.
By the way, Bernie Eastman indicated that the 3:1 slope was necessary to plant sea grass. Building a secondary
ledge at the base of the dune wouldn't help much, but replanting sea grass on the flat surfaces seems to be an
imperative.

Rick,
I think getting Rob Baron to look at a couple hundred feet of the public beach and what can be done for the
vegetation is a good idea Then maybe you could put together 4-5 talking points that we could fashion into a
letter to send to various officials both as organizations and individuals.
I will also bring up this topic with the city staff at a Beach Area Master Plan implementation committee at a
meeting tomorrow morning. Normally both Paul Dorling and Linda Karch of Parks and Recreation are there.

I agree with your thoughts on dune vegetation. This weekend it really hit me as I looked out at
the dune to the south how much worse it is than where we are even. Something must be done to
the over wash area that was formerly dune or it will definitely be lost in the next significant
storm. Ropeing it off will not solve the problem alone. It also needs sea grass planting.
We may want to get a cost estimate from Rob Baron before taking action with the City.
I also think an email/lefter and phone campaign to DEP, our state legislators and the governor
requesting an exception for Delray on the Emergency Order would send a powerful message.

my review of the erosion issue by yawning visibly. Part of the problem was

Our Mayor listened closely in the parldng lot after the meeting, and she supports
contact with the 297 beachfront property owners (243 condo owners) directly or

You have probably seen the commission agenda item t 0E for funding of Coastal
Planning & Engineering. Additional engineering work for laying sand at the north end of
the beach.
Maybe they will comment at the meeting on Tuesday on origin of the sand. By clicking
on the agenda item, two memos pop up. The second is the CP&E proposal. Sand origin
is left open at this point
I guess the highlighting of the damage issues finally put some fire under city staff to view
this as different than business as usual. People everywhere were referring to Hurricane
Sandy as a game changer except P&Z in Delray Beach. I'm happy to see they are finally
on board.
I wish the commission had also taken similar action near the properties at the south
end. They will get some benefit from southerly drifting sand but probably slowly and not
enough.
Next we need to ensure that dune vegetation Is also undertaken by the city and private
land owners.

In general, a very good job. The best website of the coastal towns. There are numerous tiny spelling errors
(i.e. "emergencey") , redundancies, myths (no one ever saw the German spy), inaccuracies (number of
households and presence of a commercial business was pre -Annexation) that can be very easily edited. Do
you want me to contact the writer?
There should be another sentence or two on the Civic Assoc, eventually including a link to their site.
There is a tone of wealth and exclusivity that could be tempered with a few choice words. We should also
explain the purpose of the design manual.

Bill,
I am not sure who prepared the Town History, but some of the facts and dates are inconsistent with my
research—which doesn't say they are wrong, just different. The state did start to build AlA in the teens, but the
road did not even traverse all of Gulf Stream (it ended at the Akers house). Old photos that I have seen do not
depict the Australian pines in nearly the concentration that we have today. The only really lush area was the
golf course, and they were planted or supplemented by Adison Mizner. I also believe that golf was played ori
the course in 1925, not the 1927 in our history section. I have a picture dated 1924 and the club house was
almost finished. (By the way, the copy about the club was lifted from the GSGC membership directory, which
states that the club was open for business in the 1924-25 season.)
We may want to think about permanent use of a bicyclist as a core photo, particularly as he is in the area with
no bike lane. We need captions for some of the photos. Most people would not recognize the Gulf Stream
school from the air.
The fab "police" talks about fire and EMS. Maybe a new heading,such as safety services.
I realize that some folks are anxious to get this website up and running, but it needs work and a plan for how we
keep it current. For instance, Freddy Koch is still alive in this version.
Finally, I thought the Mayor wanted to keep this website "low-key"—as we add more information, we need to be
mindful of our objectives, which as I recall, were to keep residents informed on procedures and issues that are
practical and relevant to their enjoyment of life in the community. As I read other small town websites, they
often tend to be real estate sales brochures.
