Member Cavanaugh introduced the following resolution and moved its adoption:
CITY OF MEDINA
RESOLUTION NO. 2023-120
RECOGNIZING CHIEF JEFF RUCHTI FOR 41 YEARS
OF DEDICATED SERVICE TO THE HAMEL VOLUNTEER
FIRE DEPARTMENT AS HE RETIRES
WHEREAS, Jeff Ruchti, joined the Hamel Volunteer Fire Department in November 1982;
and
WHEREAS, Ruchti loyally has served the department for 41 years until his retirement in
October 2023; and
WHEREAS, Ruchti served on the Hamel Fire Building Committee, overseeing a new
addition to the building in the 1980s; and
WHEREAS, Ruchti has fought many barn fires, house fires and grass fires, and has assisted
with more farming accidents, vehicle accidents, medical calls and other community needs than we
can recount; and
WHEREAS, Ruchti has been involved in all Hamel Fire truck purchases, and in the process
has volunteered countless hours preparing and reviewing new vehicle specifications; and
WHEREAS, Ruchti was appointed the gambling manager from 1997 to 2014; and
WHEREAS, Ruchti was promoted to Lieutenant in 2005 and took on the responsibility of
the departments Officer Core; and
WHEREAS, Ruchti was promoted to Captain of Safety in 2013 and then promoted again in
2014 to Fire Chief; and
WHEREAS, Ruchti as Fire Chief was instrumental in facilitating the merger between the
Hamel and Loretto Volunteer Fire Departments creating a much stronger organization; and
WHEREAS, Ruchti has devoted thousands of hours over the span of his career to the Hamel
Volunteer Fire Department and in service to his community; and
WHEREAS, the City of Medina expresses sincere gratitude for Ruchti’s dedication and more
than 41 years of service to the Medina community.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of Medina
acknowledges and thanks Jeff Ruchti for his volunteerism and community commitment and
wishes Jeff Ruchti the best in his retirement.

The motion for the adoption of the foregoing resolution was duly seconded by member
Martin and upon vote being taken thereon, the following voted in favor thereof:
Albers, Cavanaugh, DesLauriers, Martin, Reid,
And the following voted against same:
None
Whereupon said resolution was declared duly passed and adopted.
