HomeMy Public PortalAbout04/09/1951INUTES - TOWN OF GULF STREAk, FLORIJA The meeting of the Town Commissioners of the Town of Gulf Stream, .was held on Monday April 9, 1951, at 10 :00 AM at the Town Hall. Present were Mr. L. Seton Lindsay, Mayor; Mr. William J. Bauer, Town l Clerk & Tar. Collector; Mr. Norris J. Clarke, Mr. Stewart B. Iglehart, and kr. Alexander B. Royce. The minutes of the meeting held on March 12, 1951, were read and approved. Officer Cooper reported that the extra police stationed at the Gulf Stream Bath & Tennis Club have worked 6 days, the Council approved payment at the rate of $6.00 a day. Constable Bruce Wheeler was sworn in by Mayor Commissioner L. Seton Lindsay, for the Town of Gulf Stream Constable Wheeler's salary to be 41.00, per year, as A Town of Gulf' Stream Policeman. Town Clerk Wm. J. Bauer reported that the water meter readinvs were: March 31, 1951 master -1- ,333;000 rr 11 individ.2,21g,000 The Commissioners approved the attached list of bills. The Town Clerk reported to the Town Commissioners that the water samples for the month of iviarch 1951, were reported as unsatisfactory. Harry Purdom is to taxe and submit new samples immediately. A discussion was -field on the question of taking into the Town,certain properties at the south end of Town boadering on 8th St bridge axks�aimx continuation. The matter was tabled pending further discussion with the property owners of the property involved. Mayor Lindsay received a letter from 1,1r. William T. Jebb Jr. as follows: Mr. L. Seton Lindsay "March 15, 1951 Mayor Town of Gulf Stream Dear Mr. Lindsay, Due to pressure of business I find it necessary to take things ( a bit more easily and I want to give up my work as Vice -Mayor and Councilman. Please accept my resignation as Vice - Niayor and Councilman as of ll.arch 31st, 1951. I have enjoyed my work with the Council and wish you all success in your work for the Town. Jebb, Jr. I Jamaica Square, Gulf Stream. ,Dear Mr. Jebb, I beg to acknowledge your letter of March 15th 1951 in which you tell me you find it necessary to take things a bit more easily and asking acceptance of your resignation as Vice -Mayor and Town Councilman as of March 31st 1951. Under the circumstances I think you are right and this letter will serve as an acceptance of your resignation as Vice-Mayor ( and Councilman effective March 31st 1951. I want to thank you for the work you have done for the Town and for your cooperation with me and I hope you will continue to bring to my attention anything you feel should be done for the good of the Town. With best wishes, believe me, Sincerely your L (signed] Mayor', Commissioners L. Seton Lindsay and J�Tm. J. Bauer, thereupon voted to accept Mr. William T. Jebb +s resignation as submitted by letter. -� Mr. Norris J. Clarke was nominated, seconded, anu unanimously appointed to serve as Commissioner and Vice - Mayor. Permission was granted for Mayor Lindsay, and Town Clerk Bauer, to get bids on and proceed with paving a certain section of dedicated, Pandanus Road, near Mrs. Whittakers property. ?Motion was made an carried to this effect. Budget for the fiscal year as rendered was tentatively approved, on an assessment roll of X1,431,522.00. The Town Clerk and Mayor reported that they persohally had done over the assessed valuations of all property in the Town of Gmlf Stream, including increases because of new buildings, and had assessed properties at v'1,431,522. net, as per list available for inspection at the Town Hall. With these figures before the Town Commission, the attached tentative budget was approved, calling for a tax rate of 6j. mills, and was ordered to be posted at the Town Hall for public inspection and with a notice attached that the Town Council woulu sit as a Board of Equalization on May 14th, 1951, at 10 :00 AM.
