This would provide for a£ull time Sheriff's Deputy to conduct traffic safety education programs in the schools, as well as with senior citizen groups. The deputy would also spend part of his time enforcing pedestrian, bicycle and moped safety laws. The grant would be for approxi- mately $47,500. The Project calls for spot trimming including raising for traffic clearance, furnishing and planting trees, provide 24 hour emergency service, and remove trees upon City Council authorization. Allied Tree Company has done city tree work for some sixteen years and comes highly recommended from all cities contacted I including the City of Los Angeles. PREEWAY CLEARANCE I At a meeting on 0'ctober 12, representatives of Caltrans assured us o£ a cooperative effort in clea.ning up what is becoming a dump at Josephine and Ulright Road, and they further informed us that they had notified the ICC contractor to remove their dirt from the Fernwood location. He had been given notice on Oct. 6. C. CSA GRANT Our understanding is that the Community Services Administra- tion has decided to fund the Lynwood SPrvices Corporation pronosal for.Pro,ject HOME (Homeowners/Occupants Plaintenance Effort). This Project will provide home rehabilitation help to low income and senior citizen residents of the City and will compliment the City's existing rehabilitation program. The grant request was in the amount of approximately $60,000, but this will nrobably be reduced somewhat. . � � � D. DEPOSITS IN ALL BANKS The City is currently negotiating to open,up checking and passbook accounts for the.Redevelopment Agency with First State Ba.nk. If this comes to pass, the City will then.be doing busi- . ness with all four major banks in the Cit,y of Lynwood. E. WATER COSTS We have receiued a notice from Central Basin Municipal Water District that effective January l, 1979, water costs wiTl increase from $96 to $101 per acre foot. �t this point, we.are not anticipating buying water, but rather lease pumoing rights , � from Bellflower. We did this last year at a cost of $28.52 per acre foot, and we leased approximately 300 acre feet. We are. � allowed a 10% over-extraction or approximately 500 acre feet -- last year we over-extracted 23 acre feet.
