Home My Public Portal About20110822 budget work sessionCOUNCIL WORK SESSION AUGUST 22, 2011 1 (BUDGET COMMITTEE) CALL TO ORDER The Council Budget Committee Work Session meeting of August 22, 2011, was convened at 5:30 P.M. by Mayor Eric Struemph. ATTENDANCE The following Council Members were present at the beginning of the meeting: Present: Bray, Griffith, Koon, Luebbert, Pope, Schulte, Scrivner, and Weber Absent: Carroll (arrived at 5:40 P.M.) and Harvey (arrived at 5:55 P.M.) A quorum was present. DISCUSSION Presentation of Mayor's Budget: Finance Director Steve Schlueter described to the Council how Budget Committee meetings are usually conducted and explained that tonight's meeting was a review with brief explanations of the Mayor's purposed budget. *Councilwoman Carroll arrived at this point in the meeting (5:40 P.M.) The Mayor went through each of the 52 items on the Proposed FY2012 Budget and asked that each department director give a short explanation of the items that pertained to their department. Following a brief discussion of some of the items presented, Mayor Struemph made closing remarks to the Council. *Councilman Harvey arrived during the above - referenced portion of the meeting (5:55 P.M.) Procedures for Parking Lot Items: Finance Chairman Rich Koon explained the procedure for bringing up items during last year's budget workshops using the "parking lot" method of changing specific line items. The same procedures will be used this year starting at the next Budget Committee meeting, and no objections were made by Council Members to that method. The method will be: There must be a motion made to place an item on the parking lot, the motion must receive a second, and approved by a majority of the Council Members present. COUNCIL WORK SESSION AUGUST 22, 2011 2 (BUDGET COMMITTEE) OTHER BUSINESS The Budget Committee meeting scheduled for August 31, 2011 has been canceled to allow the Council to attend an all day meeting held by the Jefferson City Chamber of Commerce. ADJOURNMENT Motion was made by Councilman Dave Griffith for adjournment, seconded by Councilman Bob Scrivner, and approved unanimously at 7:30 P.M.
