HomeMy Public PortalAboutr 08:101Poaluffmz a lfyo Pmaglj of (gari d, �N� 51 No. 08 -101 Date of Adopdo April 10, 2 008 OPPOSING SENATE BILL 8-1146 WHEREAS, Senate Bill S -1146, released by the Senate Law and Public Safety and Veterans' Affairs Commnittee, would amend N.J.S.A.40A:14 -118 to tolerate law enforcement to practice any type of misconduct in which they will only be disciplined if the conduct of hand is strictly prohibited by rules and regulations that are adopted by the appropriate authority such as the mayor or public safety director; and WHEREAS, as such, S -1146, would create a loophole for ethnic lapses; and WHEREAS, S -1146, as amended, would require disciplinary action against the police officer if and only if that officer is in violation of a Wile or regulation already expressed; and WHEREAS, the New Jersey League of Municipalities strongly opposes S -1146 as released and has requested that all of its members to go on record similarly opposing the same. ' NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Mayor and Council of the Borough of Carteret, County of Middlesex, State of New Jersey, as follows: 1. That the Borough of Carteret hereby opposes Senate Bill S -1146 released by the Senate Law and Public Safety and Veterans' Affairs Committee. 2. That a copy of this Resolution be forwarded to the New Jersey League of Municipalities. Adopted this 10" day of April, 2008 and certified as a true copy of the original. on April 11", 2008.
