( OPPOSING SENATE BILL S -1144
WHEREAS, Senate Bill S -1144, released by the Senate Law and Public Safety and
Veterans' Affairs Committee, would amend N.J.S.A.40A:14 -147 to empower law
enforcement officers to bypass local disciplinary hearings enable by a civil service
rnunicipality; and
WHEREAS, as such, S -1144, would state that the officers whom are subject to
departmental charges or written complaints would have the right to waive the hearing on
the charges or the complaint before the local authority empowered hear to and makes a
bios on those charges and complaints; and
WHEREAS, S -1144, as amended, the charges will go directly to a judge of Office of
Administrative Law, or will follow procedure guidelines within contract, as permitted by
law; and
WHEREAS, the New Jersey League of Municipalities strongly opposes S -1144 as
released and has regriested that all of its members to go on record similarly opposing the
same.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Mayor and Council of the Borough
of Carteret, County of Middlesex, State of New Jersey, as follows:
1. That the Borough of Carteret hereby opposes Senate Bill S -1144 released by
the Senate Law and Public Safety and Veterans' Affairs Committee.
2. That a copy of this Resolution be forwarded to the New Jersey League of
Municipalities.
