(The agenda was duly posted as prescribed by the Brown Act). Chairperson Mary Wright called the meeting to order at 5:30 p.m. Members in attendance were Mary Wright, Bill Cunningham , Ann Fields and Ada McZeal, newly appointed board member. Absent was Rev. C. C. Coleman. Staff present were Gerald W. Forde, Carol de Jesus, and Andrea Hooper. It was moved, seconded and carried to approve the minutes of June 12, 1989 meeting. Chairperson Wright made a correction regarding notice of a field trip to Continental Cablevisions (formerly American Cablesystems) to read Mr. Forde as responsible for informing the board member of the schedule instead of inembers notifying their availability to go on the fieldtrip. SCHEDULED MATTERS 1. INTRODUCTION AND SWEARING IN OF NEW BOARD MEMBER, ADA Mc2EAL Andrea Hooper, City Clerk, swore in Ada McZeal, newly appointed member to the Board. Introductions of board members followed. 2. DISCUSSION STATUS OF "CITY BEAT" PROEJCT Mr. Forde informed the board that no date has been set for a fieldtrip to the Continental Cablevisions; he further explained that the planned workshop will replace the next regular monthly meeting. Chairperson Wright oriented Board Member Ada McZeal on the board's most recent project, the development of a progrant similar to Bellflower's "City Beat." The board's present objective is to develop a script for the said program which will feature a variety of shows that will focus on community related issues. Initially, this will be a fifteen minute show and one or two personalities will be invited to be guests of the program. Among the first ones to be considered and recommended were the Mayor and the Chairperson for the Youth Council. Several additional suggestions from the board members were as follow: . , . ,., -the program should feature scenic spots, with emphasis of what Lynwood was and what it is today (Bill Cunningham) -do a survey by way of the Lynwood Living magazine on what the community feels are the most pressing issues that should be featured on the television program (Ann Fields) -Mr. Forde explained the recent Council's action regarding the use of the Wave/Lynwood Press in replacing the quarterly publishing of the Lynwood Living magazine. Information previously published in the Lynwood Living on a quarterly basis would now be published routinely through the Lynwood Press. Name for the Lynwood Program The board members discussed the selection of a name for the Lynwood program at length. Mr. Forde proposed that the board promote the tv show through contests and prizes. This will help build up the tv show and bring attention to the public that there is such a tv program in existence in Lynwood. The members agreed with the idea. Board Member Ada McZeal expressed the use of flyers and bulletins to explain the contest procedure. She also indicated that the public should indicate, aside from the name for the program, their area of interests and what they might like to see on the, program. The time frame for the contest will be discussed at the next meeting. BOARD ORALS Board member Bill Cunningham reported that he had been informed that television reception has quite improved since the last time the general manager of Continental Cablevisions made his presentation to the board. Mr. Cunningham feels that the cablesystems is trying its very best to meet the needs of the community. Chairperson Mary Wright stated she will be out of town at the next regular meeting date. It was proposed that the meeting be scheduled for August 21 at 5:30 p.m. Ms. Wright explained that since the board is not set by ordinance, it has the authority to determine its own meeting schedule. It was moved, seconded and carried to hold the next regular meeting on August 21, which at that time will adjourn to a special meeting (field trip to the Continental Cablevision).
