HomeMy Public PortalAbout07/12/1958MINUTES OF THE MEETING OF THE GULF STREAM TOWN COMMISSION Held: July 12, 1958 Present: L. Seton Lindsay - Mayor- Commissioner William F. Koch - Vice - Mayor- Commissioner Stewart B. Iglehart - Commissioner Henry V. Pope - Commissioner Curtis H. Dodson - Commissioner The minutes of the regular Commission Meeting, held on June 14, 1958, were read, approved and adopted. The minutes of the special meeting held on Saturday, June 28, 1958, were read, approved and adopted. J. R. Fountain reported bank balances on June 30, 1958, as follows: General Account - 48,815.71 Water Account - 6,859.94 Reserve Account - 81856.87 Payments during the month of June, 1958, from the General Account were on checks numbered 5111. through 538 and totalled 42,490.91. Payments from the Water Account were on checks numbered 152 through 155 and totalled 4595.60. All of the above payments were unanimously approved. The Commissioners discussed the latest developments on the drainage situation along Gulf Stream Road and Banyan Road. Mr. Dodson made a motion that Mr. Koch write a letter to the property owners who own low land near the corner of Gulf Stream Road and Banyan Road and explain the findings to date with no- tice that this letter would be followed by a synopsis of the latest Brockway report. Mr. Pope seconded and the motion car- ried unanimously. Mayor Lindsay appointed Mr. Koch and Mr. Dodson as a Committee to meet with Mr. Reed, engineer with Brockway, Weber & Brockway, during the week of July 14 - 18, to look further in- to the three proposed solutions to the drainage problem. J. R. Fountain reported that Mr. Al Ritzell, of the County Health Department, had checked into the drainage situation from a health stand point. Mr. Fountain said that Mr. Ritzell would continue his investigation after he obtains some dyeand that a complete report should be ready by the 9th of August. Mayor Lindsay said that he was leaving on his vacation later in the day and would not be back for the next Commission meeting. He instructed Mr. William F. Koch to serve as Mayor - 2 - during his absence. The Commissioners voiced their wishes for the Mayor and his wife to have a pleasant trip and an enjoyable vacation. Mayor Lindsay read Ordinance #117 in full; the Ordinance titled as follows: ORDINANCE NO. 117 AN ORDINANCE OF THE TOWN OF GULF STREAM, FLORIDA, LEVYING A TAX OF TEN (10) PER CENT, ON CHARGES MADE BY THE TOWN FOR THE SALE OF WATER AND PRO- VIDING THAT THE REVENUE THEREFROM SHALL BE USED FOR IMPROVEMENTS TO THE WATER DISTRIBUTION SYSTEM OF THE TOWN. Mr. Dodson moved the Ordinance be adopted on first reading. Mr. Iglehart seconded and it carried unanimously. Mayor Lindsay read Ordinance #118 in full; the Ordinance titled as follows: ORDINANCE NO. 118 AN ORDINANCE OF THE TOWN OF GULF STREAM, FLORIDA, REQUIRING THE OWNERS OF VACANT LOTS TO KEEP THE SAME CLEAN AND FREE OF WEEDS, TRASH, UNDERGROWTH, BRUSH, FILTH, GARBAGE AND OTHER REFUSE; PROVIDING FOR CLEANING BY THE TOWN AND ASSESSMENT OF COST THEREOF SHOULD OWNERS FAIL OR REFUSE TO CLEAN AFTER NOTICE; OTHER MATTERS RELATING THERETO. Mr. Dodson moved the Ordinance be adopted on first reading. Mr. Iglehart seconded and it carried unamimously. J. R. Fountain posted copies of the above read Ordinances on the Town Bulletin Board.
