IN THE COUNCIL CHAMBERS�OF THE CITY HALL, 11330 BULLIS ROAD, CITY OF LYNWOOD, CALIFORNIA � � _ REGULAR MEETING OF THE COMMUNITY AFFAIRS COMMISSION FEBRUARY 15, 1989 The Community Affairs Commission met in a regular session on February 15,1989 at the Council Chambers of the City Hall, 11330 Bullis Road, Lynwood California. (Agenda was duly posted as . prescribed by the Brown Act). Commissioner Litsinger called the meeting to order at 5:00 p.m. Commissioner Madden led the pledge of allegiance. Present • Yolanda Bays I Bette Espeseth Ann Fields ' David Litsinger Marion Madden Barbara Newton Lucille Walker Staff present: Gerald Forde & Carol de Jesus I The minutes of the January 18, 1989 meeting was approved. BUSINESS ITEMS: I � 1. NEWSLETTER ARTICLE, "Did You Know?" I Information on the Train Station will be presented by staff at the next commission's meeting. 2. ATTENDANCE AT COMMISSION MEETINGS Chairperson Litsinger advised the commissioners to inform him or the Administrative Services office whenever they wished to be excused at meetings. The Mayor is concerned about attendance of commissioners and board members at their meetings. ., � � - M `' 3. PRESENTATION OF GANG AWARENESS VIDEO Due to some equipment problems, the video on gang awareness will be shown at the next meeting. COMMISSIONERS' ORALS Chairperson Litsinger informed the commissioners of the closure of Lynwood Press at the end of the month. Mr. Forde explained to the commission that the City Manager is working with the Council and the Economic Development group to see if the newspaper can remain opened. Mr. Forde will get back to the commission on the status of the Lynwood Press. Commissioner Fields, together with the City Manager, attended a recent meeting spearheaded by Congressman Dymally. The main topic was on census update and Commissioner Fields reported that more jobs will be available in the near future. Commissioner Fields asked Mr. Forde to get more information from the City Manaqer and'keep the commissioners informed of the issue. Commissioner Espeseth inquired on the status of the catering i services for Bateman Hall. Mr. Forde explained that the city is still receiving the request for proposals for the catering services until the end of the month. He will give an update on this matter at the next meeting. Commissioners Newton and Bays mentioned that they often see a group of juvenile kids hanging around 3950 walnut St., frequently running up and down the streets with golf clubs on their hands. The commissioners felt that no adults reside in the house. The kids were rowdy but have so far, not caused any � trouble. They want to know if the Sheriff's can put a surveillance on the premises. Mr. Forde advised them to keep watch of the juvenile's activities for a week and to call him should they think the Sheriff's help is needed. There being no further business, the meeting adjourned at 5:30 PM. The next meeting is scheduled for March 15, 1989. � � I i
