RD/dy 10/2/89 a:ycg.a I �i I I I i i I � I I � � i � � � . . � � CITY OF LYNWOOD RECREATION 6 PARKS DEPARTMENT YOUTH COMMISSION MINUTES OF THE MEETING OF SEPTEMBER 6, 1989 The meeting was called to order by Chairperson Lee at 6:10 p.m. in the Teen/Resource Center. Chairperson Lee led all present in the Pledge of Allegiance. Roll call of Commissioners present: Chairperson Errick Lee Commissioner Lourdes Castro Commissioner Ralph Davis IV Commissioner Marquisha Flowers Commissioner Cameron Green Commissioner Shiniqua Green Commissioner Shevonda Green Commissioner Isadore Hall Commissioner Sylvia Ramirez Commissioner Tatanisha Sanders Commissioner DaVanna Wells Commissioner La Shonda Wells SCHEDULED MATTERS Jim Given certified the Agenda posting by the City Clerk. A motion was made by Commissioner Hall approving the minutes of the l i regular meeting of September 6, 1989, with a second by Commissioner I Green and all in agreement. � I REPORT ON TEEN CENTER: I Jim Given welcomed the Commission to the Teen Center. Jim reported the improvements that were being made on the Teen Center and the Youth Commission members then took time to tour the Teen Center. Jim Given stated the Unity Festival ran from August 31 - September 4, 1989 and with the help of the Butler Carnival, the carnival did very � well. The festival had an international flavor with both amateur 6 � professional entertainment. � COMMISSION WORKSHOP: � I Jim Given gave the Commissioners time to digest the Definitions, � Responsibilities nad Duties of the Commission. Jim briefly discussed each item of concern with the Commission. Jim Given recommended that each Commission member digest the Parliamentary Procedures that were distributed, and if there were any I questions, have them ready for discussion at the next meeting. i I �- • ! Page 2 Minutes Cont. Commissioner Hall asked staff to assign each Commission member to other Commissions throughout the city so they may get a better idea of how other Commissions run their meetings. Jim Given stated he would make a list of assignments to different Commissions available on the agenda at the next regular scheduled meeting on October 4, 1989. Commissioner Hall requested ideas on fundraisers the Commissioners would like to see, some of the ideas were: Carwash/Bake Sale Cash Prize Raffle Dance Bake Sale Pancake Breakfast Barbecue Halloween Dance Youth Co�ission vs. City State Sports Events Commissioner Castro moved that the first fundraiser the Commission sponsors be a Halloween Dance, the motion was seconded by Commissioner Hall, with all in agreement. The time and location would be discussed at a later date. Commissioner Lee requested that staff provide the Commissioners with ' Notebooks and Calendars to assist with note taking and general organization as suggested by Cynthia Green-Geter. ADJOURNMENT: A motion was made, seconded and all in agreement to recess to the next scheduled meeting on Wednesday, September 20, 1989 in the Teen/Resource Center, 11409 Birch Avenue, Lynwood.
