SUMMARY STATEMENT:
Idaho Code § 50-805 states that the governing body of any city governed by the Council/Manager form of
government shall consist of five (5) Members. After the Oaths of office and the Selection of Mayor, the
Council will select one of its members as Council President
This is done by the Clerk asking for nominations from the floor for Council President. Once there is a
nomination then there is a motion to be approved by a majority of those present and voting. The council
president’s most significant role is in chairing council meetings, signing documents, and signing checks in
the Mayor’s absence. Other responsibilities of the council president may be defined by local policy.
RECOMMENDED ACTION:
Elect a Council President for the term January 2020 through December 2021.
