SUMMARY STATEMENT:
On May 17, 2011, the citizens of McCall voted and passed a new ordinance for Local Option Tax
collection. Ordinance No. 867 requires collection of a 3% occupancy tax on overnight rental stays of less
than 30 days within the City limits. The Ordinance is for seven years, beginning January 1, 2012. The
Ordinance also requires the creation of a Local Option Tax Commission, to be appointed by City Council,
consisting of seven independent members. This Commission will be comprised of two members of
different City advisory committees, one senior citizen representative, two representatives from businesses
in McCall and two at large City residents. McCall is seeking volunteers for the Commission, which will
have responsibility to develop annual budgets and make specific recommendations for the use of this local
option, non property tax revenue.
An ad ran in the Star-News for four weeks in the month of December. To date we have received 4 letters
of interest for the LOT Commission – Bob Giles and Gene Drabinski (Members of different City
Committees); Helen Eimers (Senior Citizen Representative); and Bob Hunt (Local Business
Representative). We are still in need of an additional Business Representative and 2 at large residents.
RECOMMENDED ACTION:
Appoint Bob Giles and Gene Drabinski as Members of different City Committees; Helen Eimers as the
Senior Citizen Representative; and Bob Hunt as a Local Business Representative to the Local Option Tax
Commission to a term to expire December 31, 2018.
