SUMMARY STATEMENT:
Mayor Bailey has requested a discussion about the City’s organizational capacity for an Economic Development contact person. Depending upon the Council’s intent, existing City staff
are capable and available to perform limited economic development functions.
The Community Development Department, and primarily Michelle Groenevelt, can serve as a point of contact for economic development inquiries, and provide limited resources and advice
to interested businesses, entrepreneurs, or developers. To some extent, those functions are already being performed by the Department. They can be further enhanced, however, including
creating a stronger internet presence and making the ‘point of contact’ function more visible.
If the Council is interested in pursuing additional economic development functions with existing City staff, further discussion to clearly define expectations and deliverables is necessary.
