SUMMARY STATEMENT:
The City of McCall residents currently receive solid waste collection through a company that has contracted with the County to provide these services, Lake Shore Disposal. The City of
McCall is charged by law with the duty of providing for the preservation and protection of the health and welfare of its inhabitants, and has the power and authority to regulate, control
and provide for solid waste disposal under powers conferred by the laws of the State of Idaho. Based on IC 50-344 3 – Upon a finding by the city manager for public safety or necessary
protection of public health and welfare and property, the City does not have to do an RFP for waste disposal.
At the August 23, 2012 City Council Meeting, the Council discussed the different options for waste disposal and directed staff to work with Lake Shore Disposal on a more specific proposal.
Attached is a memo from staff outlining the policy questions for the City Council and provide supplemental information on the topics surrounding a contract between the City of McCall
and Lake Shore Disposal.
RECOMMENDED ACTION:
Direct staff to pursue the steps needed toward a contract with Lake Shore for solid waste management.
