Information Systems Grant Coordinator / Originator SUMMARY STATEMENT: The National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) provides grants ranging from $25,000 to $150,000 for creative placemaking projects that contribute to the livability of communities with an emphasis on arts. These grants require a 1:1 match. The 2007 McCall Area Comprehensive Plan identified the objective of “strive to include public art in appropriate park, street, and community improvement projects” (pg. 63). The Community Development Department has identified an update of the Downtown Master Plan in its FY13 department work plan. Staff proposes to apply for NEA funding to augment City funding and to include the development of a public art master plan as a component of the overall downtown master plan to help achieve the public art objective of the Comprehensive Plan. The McCall Arts and Humanities Council (MAHC) supports the application and has committed $5000 cash and MAHC staff assistance toward the project. The City would seek the services of a qualified consultant to develop the plan. Community Development Department staff would manage the project. RECOMMENDED ACTION: Approve submission of a National Endowment for the Arts grant application for a Downtown and Public Art Master Plan for the City of McCall.
