SUMMARY STATEMENT:
National Arbor Day is the last Friday in April. It has been over 135 years since J. Sterling Morton founded Arbor Day. His simple idea of setting aside a special day for tree planting
is now more important than ever. As part of the City’s application for Tree City USA, an Arbor Day Proclamation is made annually. Due to the short growing season in McCall we typically
observe Arbor Day in June. An exact date for the Arbor Day observance will be established based on the weather conditions.
Attached is our annual Arbor Day Proclamation, declaring April 27, 2012 as Arbor Day. The attached proclamation will be submitted with our 2012 Arbor Day Tree Planting Grant.
RECOMMENDED ACTION:
Proclaim April 27, 2012 as Arbor Day and authorize the Mayor to sign the proclamation.
