SUMMARY STATEMENT:
The McCall Improvement Committee (MIC) entered McCall in the national America in Bloom competition for the third year. The MIC provides funding for the entry fee, a community BBQ for
participants, advertising, awards, and other miscellaneous costs. The City contributed $1000 in 2011 toward this program. City funding is requested again this year for the AIB judges’
lodging and meals, and support for the local McCall in Bloom contest for yard signs and other minor expenses.
The City of McCall is a member of the Payette River Scenic Byway (PRSB) Advisory Council. The PRSB Council has been awarded National Scenic Byway grant funding of $22,125 to update
the 2001 PRSB Corridor Management Plan. A cash match of 20% is required for the grant award. Valley County has already committed $1000 and smaller requests are being made of the other
municipalities along the byway route.
Federal scenic byway funding can support a wide variety of local projects, if they are included in an up-to-date byway Corridor Management Plan. Local projects could include construction
or improvements to pathways, traveler amenities, key recreational or historic sites, event and/or business marketing, regional promotional activities, or other economic development
efforts. Staff requests matching funds of $1000 for this project.
RECOMMENDED ACTION:
Approve an expenditure of up to $1000 for the America in Bloom program and $1000 for grant match for the Payette Scenic Byway Corridor Management Plan from the FY12 Budget Economic Development
Support line.
