CALL TO ORDER Mayor Pro Tem Sternquist called the meeting to order at 4:00 p.m. 2. ROLL CALL PRESENT: Councilmember – Chavez, Sternquist Board Member – Knollenberg, Tiet ABSENT: None ALSO PRESENT: Superintendent Kang-Smith, City Manager Pulido, Community Development Director Masura, Parks & Recreation Coordinator Koski, Deputy Baker 3. APPROVAL OF MINUTES OF February 27, 2012 Minutes of the February 27, 2012 meeting were not available 4. DISCUSSION ITEMS A. STATUS OF SAFE SCHOOL ROUTES GRANT Community Development Director Masura and Deputy Baker from the Los Angeles County Sheriff Department provided an update on the Safe School Routes Grant. Grant application included a student outreach component. B. STATUS OF DOWNTOWN PARKING STRATEGIC PLAN Preliminary recommendation should be presented to Commission/Council in June. Recommendation could include possible lease of TCUSD parking lot on Las Tunas Dr. C. LOWERING SPEED LIMIT FROM 25 MPH TO 15 MPH IN SCHOOL ZONES (AB 321) Could be considered, except on Temple City Blvd., but only when children are present. A recommendation/discussion will be included in the Traffic Calming Study. Traffic Calming meetings will be held on April 24th throughout the day. D. EDUCATIUS – F-1 PUBLIC HIGH SCHOOL PROGRAM Information on the Educatius International program was provided to the Committee. E. JOINT PROJECT – OAK SCOREBOARD District provided an updated cost estimate of approximately $6,000, which includes installation. Committee Members: Board Member Knollenberg Board Member Tiet Councilmember Sternquist Mayor Chavez City of Temple City/TCUSD Standing Committee April 23, 2012 Page 2 A recommendation to approve one-half the cost will be proposed to the City Council. F. TCUSD FACILITIES MASTER PLAN UPDATE & JOINT MEETING WITH CITY COUNCIL At the last Facilities Master Plan meeting, needs were prioritized. The consultant will submit a list of proposed improvements/additions by mid-May. District is requesting City p artnership for certain facilities (TCHS pool, Performing Arts Center, etc.). Committee discussed a possible joint meeting between the Board and the Council in the summer. 5. CLOSING COMMENTS/QUESTIONS A. School Facilities Bond for November election 6.
