6. CONSENT CALENDAR
A. APPROVAL OF MINUTES
Committee Member Rodenbucher moved to approve the Consent Calendar,
seconded by Committee Member Powell and carried by the following roll call vote:

7. UNFINISHED BUSINESS
A. SUB -COMMITTEE UPDATES
• AARP Age -Friendly Community
Parks & Recreation Manager Lawson updated the Committee that an
application has been prepared to submit to AARP.
Committee Member Wintercom stated that Temple City would be
recognized globally as an age -friendly community if the application is
approved.
• Funding
Chairman Wintercorn stated that in order to qualify for grant funding the City
needs to identify what needs will be met that directly affect the senior
community.
Parks & Recreation Manager Lawson suggested that the ovens used for the
senior lunch program could be repaired or the City can offer a techical
support class for seniors.
Committee Member Rodenbucher suggested a class that teaches seniors
how to use their smart phone.
Committee Member Chan suggested that grant funding could be used for
audio and visual aide or toward the expansion of current senior programs.
Parks & Recreation Coordinator Villalobos stated that the City is currently
exploring a program based of high school student volunteers to assist
seniors with navigating their smart phone.
Committee Member Powell asked if the Annex could be used as a senior
center.

Parks & Recreation Manager Lawson stated that converting the Annex into
a senior center is not an option at this time as it is currently used for the
Teen Zone program and administrative offices.
Chairman Wintercorn stated that he is in favor of upgrading the kitchen
equipment and providing visual audio aide for seniors.
Committee Member tan de bibana stated that california.grantwatch.com
provides information regarding current available grants.
• Marketing
Parks & Recreation Manager Lawson presented a marketing checklist
created at the Marketing Sub -Committee meeting in May.
Committee Member Rodenbucher spoke about networking opportunities.
Parks & Recreation Manager Lawson stated that the City is exploring the
possibility of creating a logo for senior services programs.
Chairman Liou spoke in favor of intergenerational programs; carbon
monoxide and smoke detectors for seniors; and a database to notify seniors
of classes and community events.
Committee Member Jambazian stated that the Kiwanis Club may be able
to donate updated smoke detectors and carbon monoxide detectors.
Parks & Recreation Lawson stated that he would like to create a Senior
Database Sub -Committee.
Committee Members Liou, Powell, Rosso, and tan de bibana volunteered
to participate in the Senor Database Sub -Committee.
8. COMMUNICATIONS FROM STAFF
A. Steve Lawson, Parks & Recreation Manager
Expressed gratitude to the Committee for their voluntary efforts. He stated that
he will discuss what the Committee's year-end report card will look like at the
next meeting.
B. Tony Villalobos, Parks & Recreation Coordinator
Stated that his assistant no longer works for the City; however, he will be able
to work quickly on senior programs once a replacement has been hired.

10. COMMITTEE ON AGING AND EX -OFFICIO MEMBERS ITEMS SEPARATE
FROM THE REGULAR AGENDA
Committee Member Jambazian presented a safety booklet that he received from
the Los Angeles County Library.
Parks & Recreation Manager Lawson asked the Committee if there are there items
that they would like to have agendized for the next meeting.
Committee Member Chan suggested to have an agenda item regarding
communication with the ASB president at Temple City High School.
Committee Member Rodenbucher suggested that high school counselors could be
involved as well.
Chairman Liou stated that she has a contact that may be able to provide assistance
for intergenerational programs.
Parks & Recreation Lawson stated that intergenerational programs could be listed
under unfinished business on the next agenda.
11. ADJOURNMENT
The Committee on Aging Meeting was adjourned at 7:54 p.m. The next scheduled
meeting is Tuesday, October 22, 2019 at 6:30 p.m. in Live k Annex Building,
10144 Bogue Street, Temple City, CA 91780._
