A RESOLUTION OF THE VILLAGE COUNCIL OF THE
VILLAGE OF KEY BISCAYNE, FLORIDA, URGING THE
MIAMI-DADE COUNTY BOARD OF COUNTY
COMMISSIONERS TO ESTABLISH A SEPTIC TO SEWER
TASK FORCE; PROVIDING FOR TRANSMITTAL; AND
PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE.
WHEREAS, on June 10, 2021, the Miami -Dade County ("County") Board of County
Commissioners ("BCC") County Infrastructure and Innovations Committee ("CIOIC") will consider
a resolution establishing a septic to sewer task force to study issues related to the conversion from
septic tanks to the County's sanitary sewer system (the "Resolution"); and
WHEREAS, the Village of Key Biscayne (the "Village") Village Council finds that the
improper seepage of sewage caused by septic tank failures poses an environmental threat to the
natural resources of the County, including Biscayne Bay, and the health and safety of residents
residing within the County; and
WHEREAS, the Village encourages the County to take all appropriate actions to address
the environmental, health, and safety hazards posed by septic tank systems by expanding the
County's water and sewer infrastructure and phasing out the use of septic tank systems
countywide; and
WHEREAS, accordingly, the Village supports the Resolution and urges the BCC to adopt
the Resolution; and
WHEREAS, the Village Council finds that this Resolution is in the best interest and
welfare of the residents of the Village.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE VILLAGE COUNCIL OF THE
VILLAGE OF KEY BISCAYNE, FLORIDA, AS FOLLOWS:

Section 1. Recitals. That each of the above -stated recitals are hereby adopted,
confirmed, and incorporated herein.
Section 2. Urging Miami -Dade County BCC. That the Village Council hereby urges
the BCC to adopt the Resolution.
Section 3. Transmittal. The Village Clerk is directed to transmit a copy of this
Resolution to the members of the County BCC.
Section 4. Effective Date. That this Resolution shall be effective immediately upon
adoption.
