G mihnaybar Councilmember Sitarz said he had spoke to Mr. DuPont today
Sitarz about Hermann Avenue and a couple of other streets where a
utility company came in and dug up the streets and did a terrible
patch job He said we had spent a lot of money on the streets. He
then mentioned the guard rail by the New Jersey Turnpike which
has been crumbled for about a year and a half.
Mayor Reiman explained that had been replaced before the fall or
winter of last year and was hit again.
Councilmember Sitarz said a few years ago he had suggested
putting a tariff on the cars in the junk yard in West Carteret
because we are losing money on them.
Mayor Reiman exlplained that cities cannot enforce tariffs and
questioned how we would lose money on them when there is no
money coming in aside from the taxes. He asked Councilmember
Sitarz if he was proposing some sort of permit.
Councimember Sitarz said something like that.
Mayor Reiman said he spoke to Senator Smith who is the
Chairman of the Senate Environmental and Health Committee in
P
regard to imposing some sort of recycling fee and he also spoke to
Counselor Brett Campbell, who is a former DEP Commissioner in
regard to that and we will look to see what we can do. He
explained we are not quite sure if we can access a permit because
it is in transit and there might be the ability to do a storage and
our property maintenance crews will be out there as well with
regard to oil or gas or anything else that is being spilled. He
explained even if we could only add them to our
Recycling /Tonnage Report than there is more dollars coming back
from the Recycling Grant.
