HomeMy Public PortalAboutCity Council_Resolution No. 20-5471_Appointment of Councilmember Fernando Vizcarra_5/19/2020_RegularRESOLUTION NO. 20-5471 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF TEMPLE CITY, CALIFORNIA, APPOINTING FERNANDO VIZCARRA TO THE CITY COUNCIL FOR THE REMAINDER OF THE UNEXPIRED TERM OFTHE SEAT DEEMED VACANT DUE TO THE RESIGNATION OF NANETTE FISH WHEREAS, Nanette Fish was duly appointed to and confirmed in the position of City Council of the City of Temple City ("City") on December 17, 2019; and WHEREAS, the term of office to which Ms. Fish was appointed will, in accordance with the City Charter and the laws of the State of California, expire on March 5, 2024; and WHEREAS, Ms. Fish filed a written letter of resignation effective upon receipt with the City on April 21, 2020; and WHEREAS, pursuant to Section 505.0 of the City Charter, Ms. Fish's office and seat on the City Council was deemed vacated; and WHEREAS, pursuant to Section 602 of the City Charter, the City Council, by a unanimous vote of is remaining members after due deliberation in open session at its meeting of April 28, 2020, determined to fill the vacancy through appointment by the City Council of a qualifying member of the City; and WHEREAS, pursuant to Section 602 of the City Charter, the City Council heard nominations from the City Council, and took public comments; and WHEREAS, based on the foregoing, and in light of the information received and the deliberations had at its May 12, 2020 meeting, the City Council desires to make and hereby does make an appointment to fill the vacant office and seat of Nanette Fish as provided herein: NOW, THEREFORE, the City Council of the City of Temple City does hereby resolve as follows: SECTION 1. Determination of Qualification a. The City Council hereby declares that Fernando Vizcarra meets the requirements to hold the office of City Council member in the City of Temple City as set forth in Section 502 of the City Charter. b. The City Council hereby declares that Fernando Vizcarra has the experience, commitment to the community and other qualities as determined by the City Council, in their capacity as elected representatives of the community, to serve as a member of the City Council of Temple City. SECTION 2. Appointment. The City Council hereby appoints Fernando Vizcarra to the City Council to fill, for the remainder of the unexpired term, the vacated office and seat created by the resignation of Nanette Fish. The term will expire on March 5, 2024. SECTION 3. Authorized Signatures. The Mayor, or presiding officer, is hereby authorized to affix his signature to this Resolution signifying its adoption and the City Clerk, or her duly appointed deputy, is directed to attest thereto. SECTION 4. Clerk's Cert ification. The City Clerk shall certify to the adoption of this Resolution Resolution No. 20-5471 Page 2 of 2 PASSED, APPROVED AND ADOPTED on this 11" day of May, 2020.
