C ALL TO ORDER Mayor Chavez called the City Council Regular Meeting to order at 6:30 p.m. telephonically using gotomeeting app. 2. ROLL C ALL PRESENT: Councilmember – Man, Sternquist, Yu, Chavez ABSENT: Councilmember - None ALSO PRESENT: City Manager Cook, City Attorney Murphy, City Clerk Kuo, Deputy City Clerk Nunez 3. PUBLIC COMMENT Jerry Jambazian, Temple City business owner, email public comment read by City Clerk Kuo, spoke in favor of Council making an appointment to fill the vacant councilmember seat versus calling a special election. 4. NEW BUSINESS A. CONSIDERATION OF OPTIONS FOR FILLING VACANT COUNCIL SEAT On April 21, 2020, Councilmember Fish resigned from her position on the City Council effective immediately. Per Section 602 of the City’s Charter, within 30 days of a vacancy, City Council can appoint a new member or decide to fill the vacancy by election. City Attorney Murphy gave a summary of the staff report. City Council asked questions regarding the process to fill the vacant councilmember seat. Mayor Chavez opened public comment. Hearing no request to speak, Mayor Chavez closed public comment. City Council made comments regarding the process to fill the vacant councilmember seat. Councilmember Sternquist made a motion for each Councilmembers to nominate no more than 2 candidates for interview to fill the one vacant councilmember seat. Seconded by Mayor Pro Tem Yu and approved by the following votes: AYES: Councilmember – Man, Sternquist, Yu, Chavez NOES: Councilmember – None ABSENT: Councilmember – None ABSTAINED: Councilmember – None 5.
