CALL TO ORDER Mayor Chavez called the City Council Special Meeting to order at 6:32 p.m. telephonically. 2. ROLL CALL PRESENT: Councilmember – Man, Sternquist, Vizcarra, Yu, Chavez ABSENT: Councilmember - None ALSO PRESENT: City Manager Cook, City Attorney Murphy, City Clerk Kuo, Assistant to the City Manager Haworth, Administrative Assistant to the City Manager/City Council Flores 2. PUBLIC COMMENT – None 3. NEW BUSINESS A. REQUEST TO INCREASE CARES ACT FUNDING TO CITIES The state legislature is deliberating the Governor's revised budget proposal, ahead of the June 15 constitutional deadline for the legislature to pass the state budget. Approval of the requested letter supports an alternative proposal by the League of California Cities to boost the state's CARES Act funding to cities; it also calls for Senator Rubio and Assemblymember Chau to support this measure as they consider passage of the state budget. City Manager Cook gave a brief summary of the staff report. City Council did not have any questions or comments regarding this item. Mayor Chavez open public comment. Hearing no request to speak, Mayor Chavez closed public comment. Mayor Pro Tem Yu made a motion to approve the letter requesting an increase in the state’s CARES Act funding to cities. Seconded by Councilmember Sternquist and approved by the following votes: City Council Minutes June 4, 2020 Page 2 of 2 AYES: Councilmember – Man, Sternquist, Vizcarra, Yu, Chavez NOES: Councilmember – None ABSENT: Councilmember – None ABSTAINED: Councilmember – None 4. CLOSED SESSION A. Purpose: Conference with Labor Negotiator Authority: Government Code Section 54957.6 Agency Representative: City Attorney and City Manager Employee Group: Temple City Employee Association, Unrepresented General, Part-Time Employee City Council recessed to closed session at 6:37 p.m. and reconvened with all members present at 7:15 p.m. CLOSED SESSION STATEMENT City Attorney Murphy reported that City Council met in Closed Session and was briefed on Closed Session Item A “Labor Negotiation”.
