COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT DEPARTMENT MEMORANDUM DATE: July 21, 2020 TO: The Honorable City Council FROM: Bryan Cook, City Manager Via: Scott Reimers, Interim Community Development Director By: Sandra Scott, Planning Secretary SUBJECT: PLANNING COMMISSION ACTIONS - MEETING OF JUNE 23, 2020 RECOMMENDATION: The City Council is requested to receive and file the Planning Commission (Commission) actions from their meeting of June 23, 2020. BACKGROUND: On June 23, 2020, the Commission held their regularly scheduled meeting. ANALYSIS: The following is a summary of actions taken at the June 23, 2020 meeting: 1. ROLL CALL: Present: Commissioner - Cordes, Guan, O’Leary, Haddad, Lee Absent: Commissioner - None Excused: Commissioner - None 2. CONSENT CALENDAR The Commission approved the minutes from their regular meeting of June 9, 2020. City Council July 21, 2020 Page 2 of 3 3. PUBLIC HEARINGS B. PL 20-2347: 9631 LAS TUNAS DRIVE DESCRIPTION: A conditional use permit for the establishment of a tutoring business. ACTION: The Commission voted 5-0 to approve file PL 20-2347, and adopted the resolution finding that the project is exempt from CEQA, subject to the proposed recommended conditions of approval. A. PL 20-2404: 5925 TEMPLE CITY BOULEVARD DESCRIPTION: A conditional use permit for the establishment of a tutoring business. ACTION: The Commission voted 5-0 to approve file PL 20-2404, and adopted the resolution finding that the project is exempt from CEQA, subject to the proposed recommended conditions of approval. 4. UNFINISHED BUSINESS – None 5. NEW BUSINESS – None 6. COMMUNICATIONS – None 7. UPDATE FROM THE PLANNING MANAGER Mr. Reimers, Interim Community Development Director said that City Council met to review how they wanted to respond to the COVD-19 pandemic in terms of financial assistance. The City has $123,000 in funds from the Cares Act which was approved by Congress. In addition, the City Council will use CDBG funds for the next fiscal year to create a pool of $549,000. The funds will be combined to help residents and businesses. The City will be able to help 73 families and 30 businesses. They will need to be low- or moderate-income households. 8. ADJOURNMENT The Commission meeting was adjourned at 8:40 p.m. CITY STRATEGIC GOALS: Reviewing the Commission actions of June 23, 2020, furthers the City’s Strategic Goals of Citizen Education and Communication. City Council July 21, 2020 Page 3 of 3 FISCAL IMPACT : This item does not have an impact on the Fiscal Year 2019-20 City Budget.
