HomeMy Public PortalAbout03) 7B Parks and Recreation Commission Meeting Actions 2020-07-15 PARKS AND RECREATION DEPARTMENT MEMORANDUM DATE: August 4, 2020 TO: The Honorable City Council FROM: Bryan Cook, City Manager By: Adam Matsumoto, Director of Parks and Recreation SUBJECT: PARKS AND RECREATION COMMISSION ACTIONS – MEETING OF JULY 15, 2020 RECOMMENDATION: The City Council is requested to receive and file the Parks and Recreation Commission actions from their meeting of July 15, 2020. BACKGROUND: On July 15, 2020, the Parks and Recreation Commission held their regularly scheduled meeting. ANALYSIS: Following is a summary of actions taken at the July 15, 2020 Parks and Recreation Commission meeting: 1. ROLL CALL: Present: Commissioner - Baroldi, Haddad, Tarin, Vice-Chair Rosso, Chair Vance Absent: Commissioner - None Excused: Commissioner - None 2. REORGANIZATION OF COMMISSION The Parks and Recreation Commission reorganized electing Commissioner Rosso as Chair and Commissioner Baroldi as Vice-Chair. City Council August 4, 2020 Page 2 of 3 3. CONSENT CALENDAR The Parks and Recreation Commission approved the minutes of the June 17, 2020, meeting and received and filed the Monthly Report for July 2020. 4. NEW BUSINESS A. 2019 PARKS & RECREATION DEPARTMENT ANNUAL REPORT The Commission received and filed the 2019 Parks and Recreation Department Annual Report. The annual report included various Department activities such as, but not limited to, a recap of the City’s special events, youth sports, afterschool programs, day camps, contract classes, facility rentals, park maintenance projects, urban forestry maintenance, grant approval of Primrose Park, Senior Master Plan approval, establishment of the Committee on Aging, Dial-A-Ride, and financial assistance programs. B. 2019 TEMPLE CITY SENIOR MASTER PLAN PROGRESS REPORT The Commission received and filed the 2019 Senior Master Plan Progress Report. The Senior Master Plan Progress Report described the action steps taken during the year of 2019 to implement the Senior Master Plan. A noted action step taken was the creation of the Committee on Aging. Included in the abovementioned report are the accomplishments and future goals set forth by the Committee on Aging to put the Senior Master Plan into action. C. YOUTH SPORTS ORGANIZATION UPDATE The Parks and Recreation Commission received and filed the Youth Sports Organization Update. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic the use of the Live Oak Park athletic fields are currently not available for use by the local youth sports organizations in accordance with the L.A. County health order. 5. UPDATE FROM PARKS AND RECREATION DIRECTOR A. The Commission received the Parks and Recreation Director’s Report for the month of July 2020. CITY STRATEGIC GOALS: Reviewing the Commission actions of July 15, 2020 furthers the City’s Strategic Goal of Citizen Education and Communication. City Council August 4, 2020 Page 3 of 3 FISCAL IMPACT: This item does not have an impact on the Fiscal Year (FY) 20 20-21 City Budget.
