SUBJECT: Reimbursement Check - Champlain`tower Collapse
The purpose of this LTC is to inform you of a reimbursement check received from the
Florida Department of Emergency Management (FDEM).
On June 24, 2021, The Champlain Towers South Condominium in the Town of Surfside
collapsed prompting Local, State, Federal and International First Responders to assist
in the rescue and recovery efforts. Bal Harbour Police officers were one of the first law
enforcement agencies to arrive on scene to assist Surfside officers.
For several weeks, Village personnel unselfishly dedicated numerous man hours
during the recovery efforts. Pursuant to the Emergency Declaration issued by
Governor DeSantis, the Village was eligible to seek reimbursement through FDEM for
expenses incurred as a result of the building collapse.
The Village submitted a reimbursement request through the Town of Surfside in the
amount of $143,707.37 and just received a check for the full reimbursement amount.
Attached are letters from Surfside Town Manager Hector Gomez and Police Chief John
Healy, thanking the Village for our support, professionalism and dedication during this
tragedy.
If you have any questions or need additional information, please feel free to contact
