Subject: Bal Harbour Village — UASI Grant Award
The purpose of this Letter to the Council (LTC) is to inform you that the Village has
been awarded $100,000 grant from the Urban Areas Security Initiative (UASI)
program.
The Village was awarded the UASI Grant in order to replicate the Village's network
environment, which will in essence mirror the current network infrastructure housed
at Police Department (PD) headquarters. This new network environment will be
housed at the Village Emergency Operations Center (EOC) in North Miami. This fail
over system will allow the Village a seamless transition from the PD headquarters
network to the EOC network in an emergency scenario. This transition includes the
Police Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) system, Village network and Police and
Village network resources.
By replicating the network at a secondary location, the Village will now have the ability
to significantly reduce network outages. Moreover, this new capability will enhance
the Village's cybersecurity response, as it will provide a secondary network
environment should one of the networks become compromised.
The UASI grant allocation will cover server hardware, police communications
equipment, as well as cover installation and third -party consultant costs.
