DATE: October 7, 2022
SUBJECT: Hurricane Ian Recovery Efforts
The purpose of this Letterto Council (LTC) isto update you on the Village's role in assisting
with recovery efforts in the aftermath of Hurricane Ian.
The Bal Harbour Police Department will be joining a coalition of police officers assembled
by the Miami -Dade Chiefs of Police Association, which are assisting with public safety
response in the Fort Myers -Cape Coral area. Officers are scheduled to begin their
deployment on Saturday, October 15, 2022.
In partnership with Global Empowerment Mission, the Village will be collecting donations
for those impacted by Hurricane Ian. A donation box will be placed at Village Hall
beginning Monday, October 10, 2022, and information will be posted via our various
outlets (social media, website, email, signage, etc.). Supplies needed include canned
goods (preferably with peel off tops), water, flashlights, and hygiene items. We will also be
sharing information with the community on how they can make monetary donations if
desired, or volunteer to assist with sorting and packaging supplies at the GEM warehouse.
The Village will also encourage and support any Village employees wishing to volunteer
their time at GEM, with administrative leave in order to do so.
If you have any questions, please feel free to contact Chief Flowers or myself directly.
