Gonzalez, Village Manager dl� DATE: October 28, 2022 SUBJECT: Autism Awareness Awards The purpose of this Letter to Council (LTC) is to inform you of two recent awards related to the police department's ongoing efforts in the area of Autism Awareness. The Autism Society of Greater Orlando (ASGO) recognized Detective Gonzalez and his son, Christopher Gonzalez, during its annual gala in Orlando, Florida. ASGO named Detective Gonzalez and Christopher Gonzalez as Ambassadors of the Year for their efforts in teaching Autism Awareness. The father -and -son team are a sought-after commodity throughout the State of Florida as educators in autism, and promoting awareness. Detective Gonzalez has often been recognized for his expertise in matters pertaining to Autism Awareness. The Autism Society of Greater Orlando also named the Bal Harbour Police Department as this year's Law Enforcement Agency of the Year for its ardent support of Autism Awareness Programs. The Police Department supports Detective Gonzalez in his endeavor to promote Autism Awareness and is often contacted by other agencies seeking his instruction. Detective Gonzalez has trained over 50,000 law enforcement personnel from over three hundred (300) different agencies throughout the state. Lieutenant Oscar Amago represented the Bal Harbour Police Department and accepted the award on the Department's behalf. Please join us in congratulating Detective Gonzalez for his dedication and commitment to promoting awareness and educating other officers and civilians on this important issue.
