1. Attended Martin Luther King Boulevard dedication.
2. Met with Captain Hansell regarding gang and graffiti problems.
3. Met with Public Works Department regarding Bateman Hall pools and
railing.
4. Attended General Plan meetings.
5. Attended Sheriff's Athletic Leaque meetings.
6. Conducted Youth Commission meeting of April 13. �
7. Met with Community Youth Gang Services.
8. Prepared Summer Newsletter.
9. Met with United Health Plans to discuss Senior Citizen supplemental
health insurance.
10. Conducted Stroke Prevention Screening.
11. Senior Aid Proqram - food distribution on Friday, April 28.
BATEMAN HALL
1. Met with Cal Pacific to discuss air conditioning repairs.
2. Received rental furniture for V.I.P. room.
3. Miss Lynwood contest held on April 22.
4. Replaced lock on P.A. storage closet.
RECREATION ACTIVITIES
1. Girls Basketball Banquet held April 13.
2. Boys Basketball Banquet held April 12.
3. T-Ball entered 4th week of play.
4. Lynwood Track team placed first in the South East Municipal Athletic
Association Track Meet. Travel to San Diego on May 27 for finals.
5. Served as member on S.E.M.A.A. Track Committee.

PARKS DIVISION
1. Planted 50 flats of qazania, 2 flats color, 24-five gallon shrubs,
2-fifteen gallon shrubs, 75-one gallon shrubs, throughout civic
center.
2. Quick couplers were repaired in City Park.
3. Trimmed lower branches of trees at Ham Park.
4. Repaired fencing on Ham Park backstop.
5. Refurbished medians on Atlantic Avenue to Imperial Highway. Planted
new grass, added color, repaired irrigation system.
6. Median at Atlantic and Beechwood badly damaged by auto accident.
Extensive repair was done to restore it to good condition.
7. Received remainder of play equipment for Lindbergh Park.
8. Attended Chamber of Commerce meeting on car show.

Mr. Mattoon read a letter from the Environmental Protection Agency regarding �
a request for waiver of fees for the use of Bateman Hall on 6/13/89 from i
6-10 p.m. for a Public Hearing. The hearing is to allow residents an opportunity
to express opinions regarding Cargill, Inc.'s request to install an incinerator '
to burn their waste materials. � j
Commissioner Eloise Evans made a motion that waiver of fees be granted, a second I
by Commissioner Julio Mendoza and majority in favor.

C. Personnel - Mr. Mattoon reported the two (2) Office Assistant II positions ,
have been filled by Tui Maile in the front office and D'Yaisha Yarber in the �

CURRENT PROGRAM REPORT by Ralph Davis
Ralph Davis gave a report on the current Recreation and Parks programs.
Included in the packet are the 1989 Baseball Schedules for Boys as baseball is
underway with the exception of the Junior and Senior leagues. An extensive
renovation has been done on Diamond Ill. The Girls Softball registration is being
taken with games to s[art in May. The All City Drill Team is preparing to perform
on May 6th in the Cinco de Mayo Program. The All City Track & Field Meet was
held April Sth at Lynwood High School with approximately 1200 a[[ending. At the
Sheriff's Athle[ic Board Meeting on April llth it was determined they would supply '
uniforms for the Boys Baseball and Girls Softball teams this year. On March 31st i
a retirement dinner was held for Sargeant Caradine. The replacement sargeant is
• Sargeant Manny Aniya. The Youth Commission held their first meeting on April 13. �
It was detexmined their future meetings will be held the first Wednesday of the j
month at 6:00 p.m. at Bateman Hall. The Girls Basketball Banquet was held at �
Bateman Hall on April 13 and the Boys Basketball Banquet was held April 18. The
Martin Luther King, Jr. street sign unvieling was held at City Park, Friday, �
April 21. The Lynwood Track participants attended the S.E.M.A.A. Meet at Lakewood i
HIgh this past Saturday and the qualifying youngsters will be invited to attend i
the S.C.M.A.F. Meet on May 27 at 9:00 a.m. in San Diego. The Afterschool Program j
youngsters had a field trip to Magic Mountain this past Saturday and the Lynwood �
Lightning Track Club sponsored a trip to the Skate Depot in Cerritos today. There j
have been dances at Bateman Hall for the Afterschool Program on March 31, April 7 '
and 14th.
Upcoming events include Cinco de Mayo with programs at the Lynwood High School �
on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. Events will be from May 2- May 6. On - �,
Saturday there will be Lynwood City Park Family Picnic Day from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.. '
Saturday and Sunday there will be a Soccer Tournament. Friday, SatUrday and
Sunday will feature a Basketball Tournament and Saturday and Sunday will have a i
Baseball Tournament. Summer Day Camp registration will start on May lst with
camp beginning the first session on June 19th. �

ANTI-GRAFFITI PROGRAM REPORT: by Ralph Davis (
Ralph Davis distributed the regular monthly graffiti report and an evaluation i
of this year's graffiti program. He read the highlights of the report; this i
year's goals, facts of the program and suggestions for prevention. Mr Davis �
distributed pictures of current graffiti removal, with before and after shots. �
MARCH ACTIVITIES REPORT by Harold Mattoon �
Harold Matton distributed the March Activities Report to the Commissioners for �
their review and comments.

REVIEW OF PLANS & SPECIFICATIONS FOR TRANSIT CENTER: by Harold Mat[oon
Mr. Mattoon displayed renderings of the current plans and specifications for i
the Transit Center at Lynwood City Park, indicating what type of construction '
will replace current. He mentioned the funds to cover the cost of this con- �
struction will be derived from Transit & Block Grant monies and some State Bond �
monies. �
