Home My Public Portal About58 Commending Chief Boon TOWN OF TRUCKEE California RESOLUTION NO. 2003-58 A RESOLUTION OF THE TOWN COUNCIL OF THE TOWN OF TRUCKEE COMMENDING POLICE CHIEF DAN BOON AT THE TIME OF HIS RETIREMENT WHEREAS, Dan Boon was hired by the Town of Truckee as Truckee's first Chief of Police on January 25, 2001; and WHEREAS, in just under 9 months, Chief Boon brought together a fully functional Department including the hiring of over 25 employees, vehicles, and personal equipment, as well as training and operational policies and procedures, and WHEREAS, on September 1, 2001, the inauguration of the Truckee Police Department was marked guided by the philosophy That no call for our service will ever be too small...and that we will provide police services to the community.., in the same manner.., and at the same level.., we expect other law enforcement agencies to deliver police services to members of our own families; and WHEREAS, during the startup period he negotiated both a jail and dispatch services agreement with Nevada County and initially set up the Police Department in temporary facilities, followed by the development of a fully functional permanent Police Facility located in the Town Hall building, and WHEREAS, his guidance has lead not only to the creation of a new Department, but also established a Community Oriented Policing philosophy that has expanded basic operations to services including Donner Lake boat and PWC patrols, downtown foot patrols, citizens academies, Volunteers in Policing, associations with the Bear League and initiation of a Truckee PD explorers post, and WHEREAS, through his leadership he has established strong interagency cooperation with Nevada County, Placer County, Grass Valley, Nevada City and Washoe County, Nevada as well as effective linkages with the Truckee Fire District, the U.S. Forest Service and other emergency responders in the region, and WHEREA~, throughout this intensive start-up effort, his calm demeanor and sense of humor prevailed as he dealt with the rigors of not only a new PD start-up, but also all of the community involvement aspects of a new Chief in a new Town. He has continually balanced the needs for a strong law enforcement presence with the need for a community oriented and helpful organization that strives to meet the needs of the numerous interest groups in Truckee, and WHEREAS, Chief Boon has chosen to retire from his law enforcement career effective on December 19, 2003 and move to his new home in Oregon City, Oregon. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Town Council of the Town of Truckee to extend their appreciation to Chief of Police Dan Boon for the outstanding leadership on the Truckee Police Department's First Watch and wish him the best of success and enjoyment in his retirement.
